Monkey Grip

Prereqs:STR 17+,BAB +4

The Monkey Grip feat allows the wielder of a Two Handed weapon the ability to wield the weapon in one hand.
when applying the STR bonus for damage instead of using you entire STR modifier use only half.
The use of a another weapon in your off hand negates the benefit of the Monkey Grip feat.

I'm not sure what the second sentance means. You might want to rewrite it. What good is this if you can't use another weapon in your off hand? Remember, shields are listed as weapons now.

A similar feat exists in Sword & Fist which enables use of a two-handed weapon in one hand at the cost of a -2 to hit and requires Weapon Focus and Str 15+ IIRC.

The key problem with this feat is that it is very rarely worthwhile. Given that you can only use half of your Strength mod, this can actually reduce the damage dealt in many cases. Consider a Bastard Sword wielder (who took EWP instead of Monkey Grip) with Str 17 (minimum). He does d10+3 (average 8.5). The 17-Strength Monkey Grip greatsword wielder does 2d6+1 (average 8). As Strength rises, this becomes even worse- a character with 30 Strength is clearly better off without Monkey Grip.

For that matter, of course, the traditional Monkey Grip is worse than taking EWP and Power Attacking the difference...

...given that the 'best' 2 handed weapon (Greatsword) only does 1.5 points of damage more than the 'best' 1 handed weapon (Bastard Sword) and has the same threat range and crit multiplier, I see no reason why Monkey Grip cannot be used without penalties. After all, it's clearly inferior to Weapon Spec (which increases damage by 2).

a) this feat exists, as was mentioned, you might want to review it there.

b) you've added one thing to it that I like a great deal that the original feat lacked - "the use of another weapon in the off hand negates the benefit".

The original feat had issues with power gamers dual wielding and using power attack.

I'm adding your qualifier to my lengthy house rule appendix :)
