in the way i do bronzecasting it is lost wax.

you make somehting out of wax, attach sprues(get the bronze on and out tubes) encase that in ludo (plastery high temp resistant stuff) and turn the whole mold upside down in a kiln. when the kiln is heated the wax runs out and you pour liquid bronze in where the wax used to be.

then you bust the mold and spend a year cleaning up the bronze piece. this is how most bronze statues are made :)

metalsmithing is taking an ironbar and making it a knife, or making a pretty little silver necklace, or whatever out of metal. :)

casting=liquid in mold

smithing= beating it into shape

make sense?

Very nice, Clay (is that your real name?), but, out of curiousity have you and your wife ever been tempted to pull a "Ghost"? Seems like it would be a nice perk of being a potter. ;)

Yes thank you :) I've dabbled in many things as well, but was curious about the bronze casting. Sounds like alot of work, but very intresting and fun.
