Pride? In Hollywood? Yeah, and I'm the Pope of the Pacific.

No, no. I didn't mean a healthy kind of self esteem. I meant Lex Luthor kind of Pride. The Ming the Merciless kind of Pride. I'll bet you the diocee of the Yellow Sea studio heads have that kind of pride by the bucketfull.

And pride comes before the fall. :\

You know, I had a lot of respect for Bob Shaye, in that he financed a project that was by all accounts a HUGE risk. He saved from LOTR from the bad movie it could have become had it been produced by that fat tab o' lard Weinstein (ONE film my ass!). But then he has pull off this nonsense. :(

Then why is New Line and Mr. Shaye refusing to submit the books for an audit?

Pride? Nonsense. It is Greed. We are talking about movies with sum gross revenue of close to a billion dollars. That means that tens of millions can be swept under the rug, just so long as the books aren't examined too closely.

I agree. The lawsuit was all about Peter's right to audit New Line.

You can't "blacklist" someone if the only influence it really carries is with yourself. The idea of a blacklist is that NOBODY ELSE will then work with the persons listed on it, or that EVERYONE will seek to punish the persons listed on it. Modern usage also carries a great deal of association from the Hollywood Blacklist started in 1947 and thus implies a largely SECRET list, as well as egregious political motivations for perpetrating it rather than merely legal-action and publicity-oriented.

Maybe I'm being nitpicky but it strikes me as indicative of bad/lazy writers and editors at scifi.com for using it this way. The idea that anyone except New Line is going to go along with "blacklisting" Jackson is just silly, and so, the usage is every bit as silly.

Whatever.

Didn't realize that "blacklisting" has a deeper political connotation.

In any case, Mr. Shaye have vowed that New Line will not work with PJ for as long as he holds his position there.

I really hope they can reconcile, because the Rankin-Bass version of the Hobbit is going to be better than any version New Line puts out that isn't directed by Peter Jackson.

Especially if they let Uwe Boll direct.
