New Magic Item Cost

Chaos diamond has a 5th ability - the negative level, which the creator has to pay to put into the item. It doesn't come freely. Also, the cost I listed was the creation cost. The market cost for the shroud as I calculated it would be 280,000gp. A full 110,000 more than the cost of a chaos diamond.

Whoops! Sorry, I misquoted you. Okay, 280,000 gp is a far more reasonable price for the shroud.

I still stand by the cost of 280,000gp for that shroud. It's still a huge sum of money by any stretch of the imagination. More than the cost of anything listed in the DMG.

That's quite true.

I don't own ELH, and have no desire to do so, but tell me, are there are any magic items in that book that have a cost of 1,000,000 gold pieces? The most expensive thing I can find is 211,000 for a staff of power in the DMG (which seems grossly overpriced to me, but that's a topic for another debate).

Well... Lemme check. A Belt of Epic Strength with a +10 enhancement bonus costs exactly 1,000,000 gp.

That's insane. Who would pay a million gold for such a thing? I can see now why I don't own the ELH.

Only someone whose starting gold is in the multiples of the millions. I've yet to see anyone buy a +10 enhancement item. But I have seen several other items from the ELH bought by characters.

How much would the Artificer's Handbook price a +10 strength enhancement item at?

Any idea what that changes the cost to?

Thanks for the links! :)

Weeeelll, not off the top of my head. To be honest, I would probably want to give this item a long hard look to see how *I* would make it before trying to figure out what the full scale costs would be. Conceptually, it looks like an interesting item, but I haven't looked at it that closely. Roughly 80% of my posts in this thread have been memory work without referencing any books. I finally broke down to look at a book when I wanted to compute time to create and to eyeball the stuff in the ELH. So, I am kind of guilty of off-the-cuff guesstimates here. My apologies. Perhaps this weekend I will have some time to think through my take on this item while keeping it as close to Trainz's item as possible. But, tonight is game night, so it won't be real soon. :)

Well Curtis, to each their own and all that right? That is why you designed a lot of the book to be modular. People can take the formulas and pump in different variables for item build cost to accomodate the economies they want to run with. We are all trying to tell different stories in our games using different methods to do that.
