In a Greyhawk game perhaps it would be better limited to light weapons, or at least any weapon that is finesseable. In an FR or OA game I would leave it as you wrote it. In addition I would add it to the list of martial arts feats that monks can swap out Deflect Arrows/etc for. Many monks trained in weapon use.

That is one thought that came to mind. It would really up the power of your monk if you started him out with one or two levels of fighter before becoming a monk.

Then again I am of the opinion that just about any character that expects to end up in melee on ocassion would benefit from a level of two of fighter. The bonus feats and BAB just grants a nice solid grounding of melee skill to start things off.

Do you know what issue it was in and the name of the feat? I only have the last 6 or so Dragon Magazines so I am fairly certain it is not in one of those.

I'd allow this with no problem and I think the people of Wizards would agree. I say that becasue in one of the Dragon Magazines this exact feat exists. :)

Possible, but I see the most appealing combination with this feat as a character who is mostly a fighter with a level or two of monk. Two or so levels of fighter helps with the feats, but it slows down a monk's attack progression. I'd be interested in playing a character who was primarly a fighter, but who took a couple of levels of monk and took Monk Weapon with his bastard sword or, if it were allowed, his greatsword. He'd be very much like a 1e kensai: he'd fight without armor (but adding his Wisdom bonus to his AC and taking advantage of Evasion), and wield his sword with both hands, using his flurry of blows ability to deliver quick, powerful attacks.
