New movies (and TV) seem to be lacking--oomph

So what is coming up that leads you to believe that it could of been something but will be lacking.
Alien Vs. Predator.
Kill Bill 2, if Kill Bill 1 is any indication.

And strangely I'm actually looking forward to The Punisher, but it looks like they blew it in two big ways:

1. Replacing dreary New York with sunny Tampa Florida.
2. Casting pretty boy Thomas Jane, as opposed to a rugged Russell Crowe alpha male type who'd be intimidating with or without guns.

Return. Of. The. King.

Nuff. Said.

Right...

It would seem we expect every film to be that good, and quite frankly, that just isn't possible. Different people have different tastes. Varying combinations of talent (actors, writers, directors, etc.) just aren't always going to be able to hit that same stride... every single time. Wish they could, but we'd be foolish to believe it is actually possible.

Constantine, I admit, does not look like it'll grab me. I don't dislike Reeves on general principals; I've enjoyed most of what I've seen him in. But he's not Constantine. Someone older, and someone British, was what was needed.

However, it's the common Hollywood practice to cast A-list people and like or not, Keanu is still definately A-list. It's like the interview with the Hellboy director: the suits wanted Vin Deisel as Hellboy, because Vin is currently an A-list guy. It took a lot of fighting to get them to change their minds. And this is a Warner property, and Warner tends to listen to it's suits more than most.

I will agree on Alien Vs. Predator. But then Alien Resurection already destroyed the series.

As for Kill Bill, I thought part 1 was great. Our entire gaming group went to see it, we alll loved it and it inspired our DM with some good gaming ideas. I expect part 2 to be very good as well.

Eh, I'm relatively easy to please with movies, I guess. I don't expect them to be wonderful, just entertatining. I'm looking forward to Troy, Sky Captain, Spider-man 2, Punisher, Hellboy and Alien vs Predator at least, from the standpoint that I expect them to entertain me for a coupla hours.

What's wrong with Tampa? :D

Seriously, I haven't really seen much about the movie but didn't know that the setting had changed...

But you're right--it just doesn't have the same atmosphere/feel in Tampa as it would in NY.

Geez people, it's not MY stick.

Shi Mian Mai Fu, slated English title "Lovers", is supposed to come out around July. More wire-fu goodness from Zhang Yimou, who also made Hero.
