That's not an X-men joke, beyond the name (Colossus). The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the ancient wonders of the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus_of_rhodes

Signs I'm doing something right: my almost-thirteen-year-old son didn't get it, until I ID'd Cyclops for him. After that, he recognized Odysseus almost immediately.

I love my family.

I'd be equally dismayed if my own progeny didn't get either part of the joke. Geek literacy is as important as Greek literacy! But still, cool that your kid got the Greek half. I know people in my (honors) lit course who wouldn't have gotten it while we were reading the Oddysey. >_>
