Or one of those Simpson Halloween specials where the Krysty doll was had it's "Evil Switch" on. :)

Man, Banjo would be a terror if he became an evil god!

I know I would run and cower in fear....

Oooh.... Finally an OotS I couldn't laugh at. I mean that there have been dozens upon dozens of times I've heard people here talk about "filler strips" or jokes gone flat, or ones they didn't find funny at all. And yet, those were always usually strips I loved. But this one.... It's not really funny when almost every single punch line has to be explained. Even the background jokes I didn't get. Some I didn't know WERE jokes until I read it here. Something about hatches? I don't get it. This strip had me totally lost.

I recognise that there are a LOT of people posting that this one is funny, so it must be, but I gotta say I'm not gonna start watching television or reading superhero comics just so I can get OotS jokes. :1: :1:

Yeah, I didn't get the whole "Greg Initiative" bit either; I think there are times when he gets a bit too carried away with stringing his jokes together and references too many things together at once.

I did get most of the comic book references though. That last panel was pretty funny.

Why not just say "thog not get references" and save yourself all this effort?

And I don't think anyone is expecting you to. Inside jokes and obscure references have always been a part of OOTS--remember Fruit Pie the Sorcerer? As you say, many times, you find strips funny that others don't; this time, you were on the other end. I think it's silly to assume that every single strip is going to cater to your exact sense of humor and/or level of cultural literacy.

I thought this was one of the better strips in a a few weeks, maybe months. I'm one of the only people left on the planet who doesn't watch lost, but the "hatch in the island" thing was obviously a reference to the show, although the Greg Initiative didn't make sense to me. But come on--sheep and Cyclops? That's priceless. Part of me is hoping the next strip has Odysseus stealing his ruby quartz visor...

I could have said "Meh. Filler strip." and gotten less grief. At least I admit to myself that this episode was funny to most people.
