New Party - Need PC Suggestions

I don't have Bo9S or MiC
I have both of these, and they have breathed new interest into the game for me. Especially Bo9S.

If you have the chance to check it out, look into the Jade Phoenix Mage prestige class on page 113. The class flavor is swordsage/wizard, but you can take it as a sorcerer, and if you want to spend feats, you don't have to take even a single level of swordsage. Entry reqs: nonevil, Concentration 9 ranks, Knowledge (arcana, history, and religion) 2 ranks each, must know two martial maneuvers (at least one strike), must know one martial stance, and have the ability to cast second-level arcane spells.

You can fulfill those martial thingys with one level of swordsage, or you can go full sorcerer and burn three feats: Martial Stance, and Martial Study twice.

The JPM PrC is ten levels, eight of which give you arcane progression. Full BAB! The ultimate power is the ability to explode, ha ha, dealing 20d6 to everyone within 20' and then reappearing a few rounds later in your square, fully Healed.

The other nice thing about this for you is that the swordsage would breathe six+Int skill points per level into your character, filling a role that your rogue-less party needs.

Seans23 is currently massacring our party in Exp to Cas Rav*. We, too, have 28-point-buys, so one of my on-deck PCs is an elven swordsage/wizard going straight for JPM.

You said Beguiler instead of Rogue, I'd rather say Scout instead of Rogue ... yeah, I drifted half an ocean away from the original topic ;)
Aaaah, gotcha! Thanks, that would probably be cool -- but don't Scouts suffer the same problem with Undead that Rogues do?

In my case I'm considering a Beguiler instead of a Sorcerer mainly because the party lacks a proper Rogue -- so I'd get to do some Sorcery stuff that fits my concept, but also cover the trap-monkey role.

Not with Swift Hunter and Favored Enemy Undead. :D

As a scout, it's generally much easier to do skirmish damage than sneak attack for a rogue.

Here's my character, chosen against all powergaming wisdom. Non-chosen stats not listed.

sea kin sorcerer 2 (male), metamagic specialist
Str 12 dex 14 con 14 int 12 wis 10 cha 14
languages: common, elven
worships: Deep Sashelas (elven undersea deity)
trait: focused (+1 conc., -1 spot/listen)
skills (4/L ala Eldritch Might and racial bonus=class skill): concentration +8, spellcraft +6, craft (sculpting) +6, escape artist +9, profession (sailor) +5, swim +14, spot -1, listen -1
feat: weapon focus (crossbows)
wpn groups: basic, crossbows

Wpns: trident, 20 light crossbow bolts, some stuff to whittle/sculpt, artisan's tools, holy symbol

Spells (spells know as per Eldritch Might, similar restrictions):
0: acid splash, detect magic, launch bolt, resistance, silent portal
1: benign transposition, greater mage hand, TBD

As you can see, I need to choose another 1st level spell (the BoEM grants 3 at level 2). I think I've "narrowed" it down to one of the following. We are currently in a port town and will soon be making a long trip by boat. The other 4 party members are all human.

deep breath
stand
wave blessing
alarm
summon monster I
magic weapon
enlarge person (thinking of taking rapid spell soon)
guided shot
incite
wings of the sea

As you can tell, I am trying to avoid all spells with material components or focii.

Any help on choosing a spell?

Summon Monster I seems the obvious choice. Incredibly versatile. But what about True Strike?
The duration on summon monster is kinda disappointing until 5th level at the earliest.

And true strike has a Focus component. :\

I did consider true strike, and might get that later on when I can quicken it.

Good point about the duration limitation on SMI. 2 rounds is not much. However, consider the combination of summon monster + benign transposition. It would be an excellent way to cross chasms, get out of places (deep holes), etc.

Btw, we have a spiked chain wielder in the party, so that's why enlarge person and stand are in the mix. Magic wpn is in the mix because we just got into a fight with some dretch (in character we haven't figured out yet that won't help though).
