New Podcast up

I really like Dave Noonan's voice in the podcasts. It is easy to listen to. For some reason I keep thinking that he is Mike Mearls though. Maybe that's how I think that Mike should sound for some strange reason.

I have that same problem. Mike is like, the head developer guy, or at least the Go To designer guy, so I EXPECT his voice to be so presentable along with his ideas!

I guess Noonan just put his skill ranks into Perform (oratory)

Maybe somebody will finally remember that Dave Noonan stated the number of classes wasn't yet determined several days after Logan Bonner declared there to be eight. We're getting the Druid as Divine Controller, I can smell it.

I concur. The designers have been championing party roles too much to have one be the dominion of a single class. Therefore, two possibilities present themselves - one, we'll be seeing new classes unexpectedly announced to great fanfare, or two, the designers are a humongous bunch of ninnies.

Thanks for the link. After listening, a few other things I noticed:

A mention of the "fighter's innate attack of opportunity ability" which seems an odd phrasing. Can only fighters do that now, or do they get a special bonus with it? Attacks of opportunity seem to currently be the way that fighter's operate as defenders. Like the knight ability to keep people nearby?

The purple worm is a solo monster, I think around 16-17th level.

They are still actively changing a lot of things. I came away with an impression that things are much less settled than I thought they were.

Can you recall where Dave Noonan wrote that? I can't find it here on ENWorld, at least under the WotC_Dave account, and I don't know if he uses any others.

The Druid would certainly smooth a lot of ruffled feathers, I think.

It makes sense if you parse that as, the fighter's innate ability, which is used with an attack of opportunity.

"The Human fighter picked an ability that lets him do strength damage even if he misses."
The gamist rationalization hurts my brain.

The warlock can EXPLODE(??), CAUSE MENTAL ANGUISH and then teleport away, and also point at a guy and just keep PUSHING him around.
Possibly called "Crown of Madness."

Gnome Racial Ability: yell at squirrels.
Get off my lawn! I'm the Gnome here!

Warlock: Ranged guy, with Melee solutions; more DPS than most other classes (Striker!)
Dru-id! Dru-id! Daddy needs a new Controller!

"His Fighter started out as a 'standard, big barbarian with a big axe.'"
Talent Tree? Or just descriptive?

Fighter's Gear: Axe, Shield, Cloak, Boots ... NO MAGICAL ITEMS
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Party was near-TPK from a monster 6 levels higher than them.

Line-of-sight Teleport as Warlock Class Ability (at 10th level)

Attacks of Opportunity do not work the same for every class
It was reduced in power ("In previous versions if they breathed, I got an AOO"); but the Fighter still gets plenty of AOO's ("It's dangerous to get adjacent to the Fighter.").

Fixing the core mechanic is hard, but a good challenge. Fixing the dozens of Feats and Skills is like being attacked by 1,000 fifth graders.
I'm pretty sure I could beat up an unlimited number of 5th graders.

Major Problem: The Wizard (because of 30 years of spell accumulation) is so flexible that he makes it hard to define what other spellcasters (such as the Warlock) are / can do.
I agree. What they did to solve this was not discussed.

"Fighter can self-heal."
The Fighter recovered HP using "his own abilities."
