New Reaper Pre-painted Masters pics

Not bad but not incredible either.

So far DDM is winning the battle of the prepainted miniatures in my mind.

For me thats not the point. For me its getting to buy exactly what I want, not hope I beat the odds of "random". Or hunt down the one's I want on eBay.

If DDM wasn't Random, and cost the same or less than Reaper, then you would have a point that is relevant to me as a consumer.

Not for me. Most of the DDM stuff I've seen (and the singles I've picked up) I think are pretty crappy qualty-wise, and a very mixed bad in terms of general utility. And it seems to me they are getting sloppier and more simplistic and monochromatic as time goes on. For $0.75 mooks I don't object so much, but for several bucks a pop I want better, and I think the Reaper stuff is much better. And I too have an adverse visceral reaction to the artificial scarcity business model.

If Reaper continues to improve at this rate, and keeps an ambitious release schedule, I will be very happy indeed.

For Reaper to really grab attention they need to do "specialized" PC / NPCs. Generic is just that and I have tons of it already from painted Reaper goblins and Orcs along with 100's of DDM Goblins and Orcs.

I want something that when I see it I WANT to create a story revolving around that miniature.... not a random encounter.

I am assuming Reaper will eventually convert all of their metal miniature sculpts to this form. If I am right then you will eventually get your wish.

I like the gnolls. Of the first set, the minotaur and the ogres are the best, and I'm hoping the painting gets better and better with each release. And I think we have every reason to expect that this will be so, since similar product lines from WotC and WizKids continued to improve with each new release.

I was very skeptical of these when Reaper first announced them, but now I am starting to think that they will have a lot of success with them. I can't wait to get a few more for myself!

My hopes exactly Treebore. I still pick up and paint many of their Dark Legends figures because they are awesome looking and demand to be a NPC villian (BBEG) to use.

Heh, I think just the opposite. DDM is hit-or-miss I would agree, but the ones that are nice are really nice. Overall, I think DDM's are better but this new Reaper set is definitely better than the first.

I'm rather ignorant about miniatures. Are those the same scale as the D&D minis?

Also, it seems to me that they aren't too easy to find online, except at Reaper's store. Noble Knight only has 3 and other stores don't seem to carry them.
No one?

Niko: Same scale; but the first line has only just come out, so you might not be able to find them online easily yet.

Actually, the "scale" isn't quite accurate.
Reaper Orcs are a little smaller than DDM orcs
The Reaper "Cave Troll" is a medium troll - so a lot smaller than a D&D troll.
Skeletons are about the same size for both lines.

Here's an excellent visual comparison:

Sadly, the prices of those figures in Australia are incredible.

From MilSims...

Skeleton... aus $3.50 or $2.89 USD
Orc... aus $4.50 or $3.71 USD
Troll... aus $6.50 or $5.36 USD
Ogre... aus $9 or $7.42 USD
Minotaur... aus $11 or $9.07 USD

I don't think I'll be getting any of them soon.

Cheers!
