Sadly, the prices of those figures in Australia are incredible.

From MilSims...

Skeleton... aus $3.50 or $2.89 USD
Orc... aus $4.50 or $3.71 USD
Troll... aus $6.50 or $5.36 USD
Ogre... aus $9 or $7.42 USD
Minotaur... aus $11 or $9.07 USD

I don't think I'll be getting any of them soon.

Cheers!
That is to rich for my blood as well Merric. May be cheaper to buy from the States.

Most of the DDM stuff I've seen (and the singles I've picked up) I think are pretty crappy qualty-wise, and a very mixed bad in terms of general utility. And it seems to me they are getting sloppier and more simplistic and monochromatic as time goes on. For $0.75 mooks I don't object so much, but for several bucks a pop I want better, and I think the Reaper stuff is much better. And I too have an adverse visceral reaction to the artificial scarcity business model.

If Reaper continues to improve at this rate, and keeps an ambitious release schedule, I will be very happy indeed.

I hear ya. The last two sets of DDM and the latest SWM sets have been a huge step backwards. Three colors and a wash, and not even that is done well. One of my giant eagles had his orange beak down the side of his face, and any flesh tone figures look like they are melting! Not to mention the Luke Skywalker with his arms out of their sockets (musta beat the wookie at something).

Reaper's first line is at least as good as the current DDM, IMO, and if the improvement from Harbringer to War of the Dragon Queen is any indication, the best is yet to come from Reaper! I'm also glad to see many more of their more interesting metal molds being used for these prepaints. I'm looking forward to the day they have some of the PC figures I've painted for our group come out prepainted. Then again, I might be dreading it if they look better than what I've painted!

Very nice-I'll be getting most of those. I have to agree with Treebore, while DDMs are pretty nice, I love being able to go to the store and walk away with exactly the mini I want/need.

Yikes! I was just thinking about checking out MilSim to see if they had the first lot in stock. That's disappointing ... I was really looking forward to grabbing a bunch of these.

Apparantly there are supposed to be three packs of the orcs and skeletons, but I can't ever find any on the shelves, and according to the Reaper forums, they are out of stock at the manufacturer. Which is a shame, because there is a price break on the multipacks ($5.50 for 3 skeletons vs 3X$2=$6, $7 for 3 orcs vs 3X$2.50=$7.50 I think), and I'd love to have a couple dozen of the skeletons. Anyone else remember the fountain of blood in the Lost Tomb of Abysthor? Yes, I really did need over two dozen at once!

"Surely they can't keep coming out of there indefinately!"

10 rounds later.....

"Uh, guys, maybe we should retreat..."

First let me say, those gnolls are wicked. I'm definitely going to grab some of those. I also want to say I am glad they're branching out into minis that can be used as PC's(good knight, evil knight, elf archer, female ranger, etc.) as well without the whole randomization factor.

Another thing I was thinkling about was that alot of people have argued that Reaper should do less of the "common" area of DDM and focus more on minis that are considered "rares" or uncommons in D&D. Here's a few points I was thinking about against that line of argument.

1. New players who are just starting in D&D or especially other rpgs(I actually want to expound on this a little further). People assume that everyone has bought DDM or have been in the game long enough, and have minis, that they don't need commmons. Yet this line of thinking excludes those who are new to D&D or are playing something other than D&D. If I'm playing Warhammer, Stormbringer, Runequest, etc.(and don't want to bust the money on metal minis) the Reaper line allows me to purchase the minis I want, without a bunch of minis that don't exsist in that game(beholders,half-dragon sorcerers, gnomes, Illithids, etc.). Now I know people will bring up the substitution argument, but if I'm spending money on minis I want them to actually represent what the PC's are encountering. This also helps Reaper build their own customer base in the PPM market without relying on WotC DDM to supplement them.

2. Fluctuating availability of DDM. At any given time the numbers of a particular mini can fluctuate greatly. Right now, because DDM hasn't really released alot of "human skeletons" they're actually kind of hard to find and a little on the expensive side for a DDM common. The way DDM is structured this could happen fairly often to not at all, depending on how many times per so many sets a particular type of figure is included.

3. Finally, and this istotally a personal reason...but I'd like them to hash out the quality and structure of their line with more of what could be considered "commons" and, as their quality improves and levels out produce more of the "rares" and uncommons. Especially since how much a DDM cost has no direct relation to the actual quality of paint job or quality of sculpt it's recieved.

I will say that this is Reaper's first go, and they're magnitudes better than DDM's first Harbringer set. So I will support them because I believe that given even less time than WotC they will supercede the quality of DDM..
