"New" Star Wars DVD box set to be released December 6

Who's this "we" you refer to? Some of us are waiting for the addicts to stop buying the 99th iteration of the same old stuff ("No, but this time, it'd been digitally re-re-remastered!") so we can get the one set we want.
We being me(well, not going to get this one since its not actually got a thing new), and the many others who happen to keep buying them. That number, obviously, far outweighs the number that don't...and besides, many of the people that go on complaining about things like this still end up buying every single one of them, hence the 'we'.

And if you're waiting for the pre-Special Edition DVDs, don't hold your breath. Cling to your VHS and/or Laserdiscs and hope they don't explode. ;)

I highly doubt this. There don't have to be more addicts than everyone else, just enough of them to make it profitable to get squirting out minor variations indefinitely.

If you all took 18 months off from buying any Star Wars stuff at all, Lucas would hurry up with something much more credibly an ultimate edition.

That being the original, untainted trilogy, at least in my case. :)

Word. Not only will I not buy any DVD sets of the Special Edition, I've actually told people not to get it for me as a gift, because I'll just return it. :)

Truthfully, you can only blame Lucas(and Lucasfilm) so much. We do keep buying it.

Speak for yourself. I bought the original VHS boxed set before it was THX remastered and restored and haven't looked back yet. I'll wait for a six disk set of the series and probably pick up that but these individual releases and the boxed set release of the original series didn't do it for me.

Heck, I still haven't bought Kill Bill because I thought they'd come out with a special edition of it. Ditto for Sin City.

I'm hoping that, in a few years, after Lucas has squeezed everything he can out of the series, he'll go back and release the O.T. in its original theatrical release version (pre-Special Edition). He'd make a ton of money if he did.

In the meantime, my old VHS tapes have been converted to DVD for my (and my children's) viewing pleasure.

I doubt that's going to happen, despite how much money can be made from it. In fact, I don't even know if the originals are even around anymore. Like it or not, The Special Editions are Star Wars. The one thing Lucas has been truly consisten with is stating that the originals will not be released, and that the Special Editions are the movies.

Honestly, they only thing I can think you can hope for is that it'll get released after Lucas is gone...but even then, I'd be surprised.

And, you know, even if they DO release them, there will be cries of him trying to make money and all the other things that happen anyway, even from the people who buy them. So we'll still get all the same things despite people getting exactly what was cried for.

Robert Rodriguez has urged everyone not to buy the current version of Sin City, because apparently the special edition of it is just going to be insane.
