"This all-new sourcebook provides D&D players and Dungeon Masters with a wide choice of variant rules for alternate roleplaying in a D&D campaign. Designed to expand the options available for customizing gameplay, these variant rules are modular and can be imported into any campaign in any amount desired. Examples of variant rules include playing core classes as prestige classes and alternate damage systems. Brand-new rules include a new system of metamagic feats and a new spell system."

So it sounds kinda cool i think. Discuss!

The hard part about this post is that there's really not much to discuss.

One thing I'd like to see more done of is rules for the GM in creating PrCs that go beyond the material in the DMG.

I'd love to see for example, ways of making Prestige Classes core classes. Take the Black Guard, how many anti-paladins or unholy warriors or death knights to we have are core classes now when we could've just had the original as a base class.

As far as bard, I'd like to see a bard PrC that goes back to the first edition one with that real Celtic feel to it so the druid isn't alone in the world. :D

Joe,

I thought there were only two so far. I could be wrong. Besides I think we can agree, both holy and unholy warrior from Green Ronin are very cool concepts. Certainly ones I'd use in other game settings. But if the book does offer ideas on making balanced and well thought Pr-classes, I'm all for it.

We'll, we've got the Unholy Warrior and the Death Knight. I'm sure there's a third running around somewhere but I can't htink of it off the top of my head.

Assassin has been done by Mongoose and Green Ronin, and I'm sure a few others as a core class, another PrC that people feel is a very good choise for core class.

I see there being a real need to be able to engineer a PrC into a core class but outside of kicking back some of their more potent abilities and giving them more standard stuff like bonus feats, I wouldn't want to delve into it.

Yeah I can't think of many that would be a good core class. It's hard besides Black Guard/Champions of Faith and Assassins to come up with any.

Maybe Dragon Disciple...but make it more like Draconic Blooded creature something. *Jeez I need to work on this sentence stuff. :p :)*

Well, I can't help you with a system...

But one of the projects I'm working on is a book with 20-level "alternate core class" versions of most of the PrCs from the DMG. (Obviously, a few of them aren't workable, but I've got the majority.)

I can say from experience that there's not really a system to it, though I found a few guidelines/rules of thumb that helped. I'll see if I can't work those into the introduction to the book.

.

Are you at liberty to say what book, what publisher, etc.? I'd love a core class Loremaster.
