D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

A new Unearthed Arcana dropped today, focusing on giant-themed player options. "In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options related to the magic and majesty of giants. Okay everyone, here's a challenge for you. What's the most cool or thematic Primeval Druid companion you can come up with that isn't just "I have a dinosaur"? Dinosaur answers are acceptable if you can incorporate them into a particularly thematic build, but I want to see what other ideas people can throw out. There's no reason not to grab at cave bears and giant sloths and other large beasts.

My most thematic idea so far isn't anything crazy. Just a yuan-ti with a giant snake. It's a classic for a reason, and I think you could make an interesting background around trying to escape the demon snake gods and create a more natural and druidic snake magic tradition.

Gnoll with a dire hyena.

Tabaxi with a giant tortoise.

Small race Druid with a roc. (If you aren’t afraid of PC flight, no reason not to let them gain a fly speed rather than a climb speed)

Elf or other Fey with a peryton. (See above)

Druid/Ranger from a desert with a giant scorpion, or a spirit horse.

I think they are saying that in the U.K. in the 80's, the term Café was used for something more like greasy diners in the U.S. More Dennys than Starbucks.

Okay everyone, here's a challenge for you. What's the most cool or thematic Primeval Druid companion you can come up with that isn't just "I have a dinosaur"?

I'd want to have a spear wielding, mammoth riding, druid. If a mammoth is too big (it's mammoth!) then it can be a smaller mammoth that fits the size requirements.

So, your evidence that Dinosaurs are connected to Primordials is that most of the Forgotten Realms' Dinosaurs are in Chult and Ubtao (a Primordial-turned-God) is the god of Chult.

I don't find that particularly persuasive. It's just one setting's lore for only a single god tangentially connected with Dinosaurs. Not some smoking gun that the Druid subclass is actually connected to Giants somehow.

It's a bit more than Dinosaurs are there and he is there. This is from the lore in that link.

"Ubtao's main divine realms bore the name of the Labyrinth of Life, a massive labyrinthine jungle in the Outlands of the Outer Planes. He also created a realm for his favorite children – dinosaurs. "

He's literally the Father of Dinosaurs.
