I was wondering what people might think about this new warlock invocation.
Eldritch Claws (Version 1)
Prerequisite: eldritch blast cantrip
You may cast your eldritch blast as a melee spell attack, changing the range of the spell to touch. When used in this way, any target damaged by the eldritch blast must make an athletics or acrobatics check (target's choice) against your spell save DC or be shoved. If your eldritch blast can produce more than one beam, each must be treated as having a range of touch.
Alternatively, I was thinking the invocation could be worded like this:
Eldritch Claws (Version 2)
Prerequisite: eldritch blast cantrip
When you cast eldritch blast, being within 5' of an enemy does not impose disadvantage.
Because I was thinking this would be something interesting for pact of the blade warlocks. The first version seems limiting because casting it like that forces the player to make every eldritch blast attack of that casting as a touch range attack, which is why I added the ability to shove as part of the attack. But the second version allows the warlock more flexibility, and a warlock could direct beams at melee and range in a single casting.
