Newspeak for ENWorld

That sure looks like a thinly-veiled edition war thread to me. But hey, I'm not a moderator. What do I know?

The thing you don't know is that all versions of D&D have been, in this language, heavily gamist. So, knocking simulationism or narrativism is not knocking a particular edition, as no edition of D&D has been either.

Do not confuse "edition war" with "game-style war". They aren't the same thing.

AD&D mountaineers and dungeoneers guide and 2e were pretty much simulationist-narrativist in front of 4e IMO. But, yes, D&D's design is generally gamist only that 4e rules take no prisoners (previous editions left more space-4e rules have much more limits in this aspect).

Simulationist: 1) A person or game that dwells on finicky details and makes you roll to see if the undercooked eggs your character ate at the inn for breakfast will give you salmonella. 2) An immersive world so full of detail that it feels like the real thing (see Boring)

*buzz* What is the One True Way, Alex?

Correct, for $600!

Meh, that may have been funny if it wasn't so one-sided. The first few entries may pass as "laughing at our own foibles", then it's just mocking things that happen to be some 4e sceptics arguments.

To me, that's laughing at the "other side"'s foibles. Maybe not an edition war thread, but clearly knocking other people's views and trying to pass it off as humour.

Also, I'd say Badwrongfun means whatever you find fun that other people (or designers) tell you is not.

You, of all people Wulf, should know that we allow a certain amount of sarcasm around here. :)

Perhaps it is just that I, of all people, well-versed in the art of sarcasm as I am, am able to clearly read between the lines of this oh-so-subtle rant against 4e haters.

Would you care for me to follow the OPs "humor template" and post a hilarious sarcastic send-up of ENworld Moderators? Would you like a preview of the UMBRAN entry as an opportunity to laugh at your own foibles?

EDIT: Forgot the smiley! ;) Now it's humor!
