Round 30: Buddy hits for 5! The rat-thing is defeated!

The next opponent is from the EPH. PJSlavner will be conducting the battle.

The githzerai goes next at the end of round 30.

A tall, thin humanoid with sharp features and a grave expression steps into the arena at 115N115E. He is holding a longbow, with a scabbard at his side. He is wearing ordinary clothing, but no armor. He appears to concentrate, but you see no visible effect of his concentration.

Go ahead, Buddy.

No armor? Buddy muses to himself. A mage? The new tallfolk chose to come in almost as far away as possible, so it must not want hand-to-hand combat. Does that mean he should dare to charge after it?

He steps forward to 60N15E again (5ft step), sheathes his sword and picks up the unloaded crossbow.

Gith-Zo moves forward to 100N95E and appears to concentrate again. This time, however, Buddy notices an effect. Buddy feels like something punched him, hard, and he takes 1 point of damage (OK, maybe not so hard). Buddy has 5 HP left.

Go ahead, Buddy.

With a grunt, Buddy loads the crossbow (move action), raises it and fires (standard action) at the strange tallfolk magey thing.

(Are you sure you're in range - most low-level ranged psionics are Close (25"+5"/lvl) range)

Yes. I did not expect to be in range when I checked, but it turns out that I am.

Buddy misses (rolled 13-2=11 for long range). Gith-Zo, not impressed with his punch, tries more conventional means, firing his composite longbow, hitting (rolled 23) for 9 points of damage. Buddy is at -4 HP and dying. Gith-Zo backs up to 100N100E.

Greybar, it is now your turn with a grig (sprite) (MM). You do not have a fiddle, and note your poor maneuverability (DMG pg. 20) in the air.

Greenfig rolls onto the field of battle with a high-pitched ho ho! hee hee and a tiny *twing* sound as he fires his longbow.

Free action: declare Gith-Zo as the target of his Dodge feat.
MEA: move to 0N0E (150 ft from Gith-Zo, if my math is good)
Std: fire longbow at Gith-Zo (-2 for range). I'd think that undersized weapons should have shorter range increments, but I see no rule to that effect.

Re: flying, poor. I seem to remember discussion about that affecting the ability to fire while flying, but I can't find that in the SRD.

That DR should be handy, given my two two two! hit points.

I agree about the shorter range increments, but there is nothing in the PHB or DMG about it.

As a poor flyer, your ability to fire a bow does not seem to be affected, but you have to fly at least half your speed, it costs movement to turn in place, and you cannot turn more than 45 degrees in one round.

Greenfig hits with his arrow (rolled 23-2=21 for long range) for 1 point of damage. Gith-Zo has 4 HP left.

Gith-Zo fires back, missing by quite a bit (rolled 15-2=13 for long range). Gith-Zo decides to get closer, moving to 80N80E.

You are now 120 feet away from each other, and it is your move, Greenfig.
