Nightfall's Proclaimation to the En World Community: Let's behave Children!

Nightfall

Sage of the Scarred Lands
Look I'm as mad and irrated as the next guy. But you know what, this is En World. This is the place where, no matter how pissed off we get, we come together as a family. It's here, I Nightfall, can post my views about Scarred Lands, my declaration of my dedication all things Orcus, AND also come here because I find it a great resource.

Now if the WotC people want to come here and talk, I say LET THEM. Let them speak their peace and do so in a way that DOESN'T threat or harm lives.

I say let Bill Slavecick(sp) come here, post his thoughts and be the man I know him to be.

(Bill, you're still a great guy.) I say let the people in charge of handling this HANDLE it so they can give us answers and see where this all will lead.

I'm not saying "Hey let's sing Kumbaya" or "Put on the Rose Colored Glasses!" But let's also remember the guys that work there, live there and do their jobs there, are after all just people. Some of whom we DO call friends, or at least acquaintances.

So in that spirit folks, let STOP the anger and let's start the talking.

Cause I for one, might still be ready to bomb WotC corps, but I'm not going to be the one with blood on my hands for being an ass.

So my advice is this: Let's all stop and talk.

Oh and I'm the semi-divine agent of the Scarred Lands and the half fiend son of Orcus. I also like playing with money angels. :)

Thank you for your time.

I respect your opinion but will have to disagree. Until someone at WotC actually comes out from behind or from under wherever they are hiding to actually "handle" this situation, I'll continue to express my outrage at the recent turn of events.

All these rants could have been minimized with just a little empathy, forethought and planning from WotC. If Paizo was able to present us with an alternative to what was canceled, and actively communicate with a very upset customer base ... why can't WotC?

Yeah, if people want to be rude there is a good thread or two doing just that over at the WOTC boards.

Lets keep ENWorld the exceptionally open and friendly place it is capable of being.

Besides, its highly unlikely anyone poste here that is responsible for making Dungeon and Dragon mags to go away.

That would have been decided at a higher level than the everyday worker/editors at WOTC.

So most, if not all, of the people at WOTC are probably as heart broken as any of us to see such icons disappear from the store shelves.

Its the business suites that sign their pay checks that deserve any of our ire.

Yeah, lets play to our strengths guys! If you feel like being obnoxious, there are plenty of other places to do it.

Devy,

The trouble is they don't WANT to come here because of that outrage. They don't want to be the ones fed to the angry mob. So I say let's not be the angry mob. Let's be the NPCs that listen as we have a story explained to us.

So I'm not against the outrage. I'm against the outrage that doesn't lead ANYWHERE.

Tree,

You are so right. It's the suits that deserve the ire more than Bill and company. I want THEM to talk to us.

I work in retail for a large corporation who every so often make decisions...bad decisions...that I have to explain to my customers. And so, I explain 'em as best I can...and as long as I truthfully add in that I personally agree with the customer's point of view, I'm usually not the one who gets yelled at.

Same thing applies here. If someone from WotC comes over and says something like "here's the official party line [blah blah blah]; but I don't agree with all of it and here's what I personally would do differently [blah blah blah]", more power to them. But if all we get is a corporate parrot mouthing meaningless platitudes (or nothing at all, about the same thing), then I suggest we've every right to be the angry mob: pull out those tomatoes and start throwing! :)

And call me cynical (and I'm not sure how to put this), but I almost get the impression WotC are implicitly asking Morrus and the mods to clear the road for them...if things keep going as they are, WotC can come by and say what they want in a week or so, and all the real opposition - or that of it that shows any real emotion - will have got itself banned by then. Thus, the response WotC sees will be far muted from what it would have been. Sad, really.

Lane,

Perhaps, but even if they are asking Morrus to clear them a path, I don't see why we can't oblige them or at least Morrus.

Because if people aren't allowed to give (rational) voice to their feelings, and to ask the tough questions, the resulting impression will be that the general community (as represented here) is willing to lie down and take it.

I mean, my own opposition to these moves is probably pretty mild compared to some of what I've read here and elsewhere...that said, all I need to do is type a few wrong words and get reported, and I won't be around for any WotC rebuttal. Same goes for all of us...
