Nintendo announces new GBA model

Am I remembering right in that the GBA is regionless, unlike most modern consoles? If so, I'm going to import one of the metalic black ones from Japan.

The original GBA is regionless, so I can't imagine why this one would be any different.

Ditto, just make sure to wait a bt and ind out for sure from people in the know before you get one.

March 23... Nintendo makes me mad.

We go through periods where nothing is released, nothing good anyway. Then, miraculously the skies open up and it pours games on the exact same day. Eternal Darkness & Wavebird - Mid June 02; Metroids GCN, GBA - Early Nov 02; Resident Evil 2,3 Mid Jan 03; Zelda and new GBA - March 23 03.

Its as if they feel they'll save themselves millions on shipping costs by releasing all of their stuff on the exact same day.

Bah. My ABGBA works just as well, and still fits my large hands. Plus the light in mine can be dimmed, not just on or off. Where as I like the idea of the flip lid design, having to use an adapter to use headphones just blows. It's just something else to lose/misplace/break. The only other thing I like about the GBASP is the since the screen is in the flip top design, it removes the odds of your fingers slipping off the buttons and smearing the screen.

The origonal reason that this never happen was because they thought that there was no market for it after their LightBoy (Indiglow lit Gameboy Pocket). Albet that this was when the GBP was after its peak and was only released in Japan (the lightboy that is) it still sold so poorly that it was never even brought to america.
I found it to be more of a problem that the GBC was already announced or even out when the LightBoy was put out in Japan. I seriously considered importing one, but held off for a GBC instead. Oddly, once the GBC came out by the time I had the cash for one the GBA was announced and I ended up holding out for that instead.

Cool as this is, getting an afterburner for my current GBA would be a better solution for me. My hands have already cramped up playing graidus galixies before I picked up a nice battery pack that makes it shaped more like a modren video game controler... My coat pockets are big enugh for an old Gameboy, anyway.

Though the re-chargable battery pack is long overdue.

P.S. I've seen the little adaptor cable for the headphone jack, anyone know if this is standard or an extra you need to buy? Anyone else miss the (excelent) pair of bud headphones included with the classic GB?

Or to put it in d20 terms, you cannot use the classless system approach when it comes to consumer electronics. You need a device class dedicated to gaming and another device class dedicated to office workstation. While merging the two is nice, they do not function as well as a dedicated specialists.

I think I got the analogy right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe there's something to that, but a game console/DVD player/CD player/DVR (TiVo clone) doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, and it seems likely that an Xbox 2 will be that. Heck, an Xbox with a bigger hard drive and some software could manage it.

It's an extra, but it only costs 3 or 4 dollars, from what I've heard.

IT MUST BE MINE! :)

As a proud owner of two GBAs (one for me and one for the wife....I'd never get to use it otherwise: Curse you, Golden Sun!), I still anticipate getting one of these sexy beasts. I LIKE the new form factor, at least from a design standpoint. We'll see how well it performs.

As for the old units, it's either trade-in time, or I'll buy a Halo Light or two (unless the Halo fails to perform, and then maybe i'll consider an afterburner). Anyone know the current projected release date for the Halo kit?
