Except the Z button is the absolute worst placing of a button on any controller, with only the black and white buttons on the X-Box controller as an equal.
Bah! You play enough SSBM, you get used to those Z buttons.

SSBM is one of the most played games and its one of the big reasons I hate the Z button. :p
Oh, then you must not play enough. :p

Or you guys just need someone to learn y'all up. Grabbing cancels actual attacks.

Grab, hit, throw! Grab, hit, throw!

Me...not play enough?! HA! I've played the game so much that I can't get anyone to play against me. I'm just too damned good at it. Its all because of a couple summers in a row that I spent with some friends just playing the old N64 version. Amazing how easily that gameplay transfered to the GC.

And I love grab attacks...which is why I HATE the Z button placement.

Yes, I know the feeling... they have little tournaments if you know where too look. It's easier to play against people when they don't know what to expect. They can be fun.

And I usually rest my finger on the Z button. Right button for Z, left for L. Works well. Don't have to worry about it.

Interesting (and rather surprising) news from Nintendo.

And, as for controllers, I find the GCN controller to be one of the worst travesties ever created (with the DC's ugly ass cow controller a close runner-up). The PS controller is by far my favorite. The Xbox S-controller is a close second (and superior for FPS), but the black and white buttons were very poorly placed. Makes fighting games almost unplayable if they are used in any significant manner.

How is it a travesty?
Unlike you, I've found it to be not ergonomic at all, that the Z button is not only poorly placed but poorly implemented overall, that the lack of a decent dual-analog control (ie. the weak "C-stick") to be a serious detriment, and the rotten placing of the X and Y bean-shaped buttons to be less than helpful. I'm not too keen on the (only two) clicky shoulder buttons, either.

I don't think Miyamoto (who wants a controller designed specifically for his games) is doing Nintendo any favors, anymore.

But that's just me, of course. Based on your previous posts, I do see that you like the GCN controller, which is fine and dandy.

Well, sure, X-Box has the WEIGHT and SIZE going for it...but the GameCube has the handle and mace-like swingability.

True, but anything that can kill just by dropping it from a short distance is scary.
