Nintendo's E3 showing--and beyond

I know it will out in time for the holidays but I'm going to be spending a small fortune on the PS3 so it will have to be priced pretty low for me to pick one up at launch.

There's your problem. I find it funny you're willing to blow $500-600 on a PS3, itself, and think the Wii being over #200 is too much.

Why?

For the Wii, over $200 probably is too much.

Yeah, the Wii is basically a GC with a new controller, some flash memory, and some emulators for past Nintendo consoles.
Not exactly. It's got a complete CPU and GPU upgrade, and I think it will use normal DVDs now as well.

It also looks to be compatable with the old GC hardware (controlers and memory cards) as well as games, which will mean that it's a logical upgrade, will have a huge kid's library of games already, and most GC owners will have little trouble droping the money to upgrade, particularly when they can trade in the one system to get credit for the other.

The more I learn about it, the more excited I am about it personaly. It's a consol that's different enough from my computer to make it worth owning.

Yeah, I should have said "souped up Gamecube". It's more powerful than the GC, but not dramatically so. But it also uses a similar CPU (PowerPC) and the graphics chip is by ATI (like the GC).

I would be more interested in it myself if I had broadband - I presumably won't be able to make use of one of its bigger features - the ability to play older games - and if I weren't such a klutz. I can see me injuring myself with that controller...

I don't like the look of the newer "Backwards compatable" controler, but that's me. I guess it's a replica of the N16, but I find it less than thrilling.

Don't forget the Wii is fully wireless, automatically connects with other systems through WiFi, and... when I heard its controllers were backwards compatible, it wasn't just with GC controllers.

But, don't use the word "just." Free games is a big deal. The new controller is a big deal. The controller is, arguably, the biggest console innovation in the past 10 years.

What's the PS3? A souped up PS2. What's the XBox 360? A souped up XBox. They have hardware upgrades, just like every past console has had. No console company has ever rethought how console games play as much as Nintendo.

Well based on my experiences - which unfortunately do not include hands on time because of my interview schedule while there.. i think you'll find that Mario, Link and Metroid will all make the launch window. Nintnendo has me thinking differently about the launch than I was with the 360 and deffinately more positively than the PS3.

The E3 showing did nothing for me to sway me either way about the Wii. I was buying one before and I still am. Maybe not at launch and probably when the big titles hit.

What I want to know: How much will it cost me and when exactly is it coming out? I know it will out in time for the holidays but I'm going to be spending a small fortune on the PS3 so it will have to be priced pretty low for me to pick one up at launch. Any more than $200 and I'll be waiting for a price drop not to mention that they'd be insane. Low pricing and good availability could net the Big N a huge holiday season. Um, not that I care as long as the games rock. ;)
