Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

"Well, Thomas VanLandingham, Victor Regenstein, and Vander Denari are probably the most likely chalengers to the title. Thomas is a little older, but he has 2 young sons, Victor had saught Niobe's hand, but eventualy married her niece Blenda, and Vander has reciently been engaged to Lunara, whom he's been eyeing for years now. They all knew my brother to some degree, but beyond the title, I can think of little that motivate any of those men to do such a deed."

"Revenge and Pride are enough for some Men to take action, my Lord. Still, you are in the right. There seems little motivation as of yet from this angle. How about from less noble legacies? Do you have enemies from more shady backgrounds?"

"Well, I'm sure there's some criminal element that wants the change, so perhaps they have a stake in one of the other three, but I don't know of any I've wronged more than any other lord might. As far as other vendettas, Niobe's brother Norton wasn't thrilled that Cedric left, but I went hunting with him a few weeks before Niobe's disapearance, and I don't think he has anything against me."

OOC: Any more questions? Jaan?

OOC2: I'll be out of town from the 12th through the 19th, with likely no internet access.

Jaan Saaresar, male human servant of the Greenman

After being shown to his room, Jaan strips off his gear and cleans up as best he can. Pulling on a clean shirt, he buckles his belt around his waist. He takes only his two daggers, one at his belt and one in his boot as usual.

Joining the others at the table he eats sparingly, and says even less. For some reason his brain seems sluggish and his thoughts seem fogged. Jaan hopes that it is just the effects of the recent trip. But it is more than he suspects. The flame of faith that he can remember being there since he was a child seems to be burning dimmer these days. He feels disorientated, uncertain as to which direction he should go. Jaan fervently hopes that the serach for the Baron's wife will return his sence of purpose. The alternative is ...

Jaan finds himself shying away from that line of thought. He makes an effort to focus his thoughts on the situation here and now.

"Lord Pican, What has been done so far to find the Lady Niobe? And what authority do we have to persue this enquiry. It is more than likely that we are going to upset some people with our questions."

"You have every authority I can give you, though indeed, you are best to tread lightly unless you have more than suspissions. As for what has been done, we have tried some tracking and magical location, but for naught. We have searched some of the immidate area, and turned over the manor. She is certaintly not here, and I feel quite confident that no one inside this manor had anything to do with it. Father has always thought of her as the daughter he never had, and to my knowledge, the staff all loved her as well, probably more than myself, as she has a kind and gentile way about her."

[sblock=Lasair, Jaan]You feel that his faith in his staff is perhaps the most sure thing he's said all dinner concerning those that might or might not be suspects. While he has spoken about his brother in conviction, there is some strong ill will under his words about him, but he is less confident about that than he speaks.[/sblock]

Jaan Saaresar, male human SErvant of the Greenman.

Jaan bows his head slightly.

"Thank you Lord Pican. Having your authority behind us will certainly make things easier. I think it is inevitable that your questions will cause some upset. But we will do our best to tread carefully.

"I apologise if I seemed to suggest that the staff may have been involved. It wasn't my intention. But I still think we should talk with them. In my experience, very little happen in a house without the staff knowing of it. Even if they don't realise themselves that they know. And if nothing else, it would help us get an idea of the Lady Niobe, and life in Earling.

"Perhaps we could start tonight with those that are here." A thought occures to Jaan, and he adds, "Have any of the staff left your employ in the last week?"
