Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

OOC: Been busy, and apparently there are more questions. Need to make sure everything meshes, so going to do some final planning so there aren't any "What the heck?" snags later.

[sblock]OK. I've caught up on this thread. I'm loving it. Great plot. Great RP. But is the name supposed to be 'Niobe's Dilemma'?[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=OOC]I mentioned that too with no response. Perhaps it shall forever remain the same much like Murder is the Pits which had an s for an n  Not as bad a faux pas as my name for the Chromatic Order thread though ;)[/sBLOCK]

"I don't know much about spells, but Goran Stonegut is the diviner we consulted, who has been a family friend and advisor since before I was a boy. I'm sure you can speak with him tomorow, his home is not too far from the estate."

Once dinner is finished, Pician nods and says "Well, I should take you to see the room, as well as the note. Please, follow me."

Pician, who is joined shortly by Bernard, leads you down a hallway and stops by one of the doors. "Hold on a moment," he says, steping into a room that has several bookshelves and a large desk. He grabs a letter from the desk that is partialy in an envelope and returns, handing it to Jaan. "This is the letter that we recieved earlier today via our normal letter couriers, though he swore he knew not how it arived. Now, for the room..."

Pician leads you up a staircase and down a hall to a set of double doors. There is some dried blood and a chalk outline of a figure roughly man sized on the ground around the blood stains. There are two halves of a broken spear laying in the outline. "We removed his body, but tried to preserve as much of the scene as we could."

He opens the doors to a lavish bedroom, where a window is still open, the furnature seems in disaray, and some clothes are scattered about. There are some obvious signs of a struggle.

"Do you require my presence? If not, Bernard will stay and assist you as he can. I fear I would only get in the way, and think it best to occupy my mind with other matters."

[sblock=The Letter]The envelope is sealed with a wax seal that looks oddly remanicant of symbols you have seen here at the estate, and is addressed to a Lord Pician with nothing else written on the envelope. The letter reads:

Brother,
I have returned to take what is rightfully mine. While I wish her no harm, I will have what is coming to me. I require 500,000 gold pieces to be delivered to me. You have two days to get the money in order. Once you do, post a note in the Pit Bull congratulating Mountain and Tiny on their win in their previous fight. Further instructions will follow.
Cedric

There is also a lock of hair in the envelope.[/sblock]

OOC: Back, sorry for the delay.

Troi closes his eyes and shakes his head slowly as he sees the window open.

"Ya prolly shoulda closed th' window... dunno if any scent is gonna be in th' room, wi' that..."

Pician

Troi nods. "'at's fine, I s'pose."

He looks to the others. "I'll look over th' room firs', see if there's anythin' 'at we kin use."

He then proceeds into the room cautiously and carefully. He begins by searching for tracks, if there are any places evident in the room that would be capable of holding tracks for extended periods, then attempts to catch any noticeable scents.

[sblock=OoC]Looking for physical tracks and any scents. Survival +9, with a +2 bonus against humans and +4 against magical beasts.[/sblock]

"You mean you were once a girl?" Lasair asks quite curious about these strange Westerners.

"Well, this means that at most we have two days to solve this case, and then we go to desperation measures and pretend to hand over the money in order to track the one who picks it up."

"I did not know I would find a tracker of scents, so I tried to leave the room as undesturbed as possable. I've been staying in one of the other Master Suites."

If no one else has anything for Pician, he will leave. Bernard will wait outside. the door, giving you a wide birth.

[sblock=Troi]Troi can locate obvious signs of the struggle between at least two people, and it looks like one of them probably exited via the window, though you don't see any immediate way down the second story. You're fairly sure no one entered from that way though. If someone entered through the door, the tracks have been trampled over too many times more reciently.[/sblock]

Pician chuckles, "No, I mean before I was born. I'm sorry if my speach confused you."

OOC: He specificly mentioned no note had arived yet. here

Troi nods after he finishes his investigation of the room, then joins the others outside the door.

"Well, there was a struggle, obviously. Looks like two people, at th' least. It looks like one of 'em went out th' window, but I dunno how they got down... an' it doe'n't look like anybody came in through th' window. My guess is they came in through th' door, but there's no tracks ta make sure a that."
