Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

Jaan waits until everyone has read the letter before sharing his thoughts.

"Perhaps we shouldn't question anyone. There are only a few people who know we are here, and what we look like. If we remain anonymous, we would have a better chance of being able to catch the kidnapper by surprise. At the Pit Bull, or later at the hand over.

"Once we start asking around, there is a good chance the kidnapper will become aware of us."

Bernard waits till you are all ready to procede downstairs to take you down there (Let me know).

OOC: Doghead, you should have 28 HP (10 + 7 + 8 + 3 for con). Just happened to spot that.

"I think that may be taking a big risk, Jaan Saaresar. If we do not pursue the clues now and hope that the kidnapper botches the attempt at collecting payment in our favour, then we risk the lady's well-being on our capability to catch the kidnapper at that point, possibly foregoing a clue that could have saved her earlier."

"And speaking of keeping her safe, that gives me a thought. A real ransomer wants money, but this kidnapper probably does not care for it as much. Noenetheless, to keep up appearances, he must play the part of a real ransomer, yes? Well, we should have Lord Pician Nassir demand proof that Niobe is alive and safe before he agrees to pay."

Jaan Saaresar, male human servant of the Greenman

"We take a risk either way. We could spook the kidnapper by askinng around. Especially if we get to close. I suppose the question is, which risk is the greater, and which poses the best chance of finding Niobe and getting her back safely.

"As for demanding proof, the more communication between Lord Pician and the kidnapper, the more chance we have of tracking him down.

"What do you think of the ransom letter?"

Thanks Bront, I'll update the CS.

"If we could find a Wizard of sufficient power and were willing to spend 1,000 gold, I think there is something Elise mentioned to me that would reveal the identity and location of the kidnapper immediately. There is a spell that allows you to recall an item from any location unless it is in the possession of another, in which case it tells you who has it and where they are. We could bait the kidnapper with a payment trapped with such an item."

(OOC: Instant Summons. If Lasair was just level 9, she could try a much more fun tactic with Mind Probe. I've always wanted to do an investigation with Mind Probe--that would just be so cool!)

(OOC: Mind Probe is really cool. It lets Lasair read even the deepest secrets off of a target's ziivash. Every round, she basically tries to search for the answer to one question, and if they fail their save, she discovers the answer and are none the wiser. Of course, if they make the save, they can feel some sort of intrusion in their mind :D)

Jaan Saaresar, male human Servant of the Greenman.

Eventually, if Jaan continues down the path he has set himself, he will become able to channel the divine power of the Greenman. But for the moment, he knows little of magic. Indeed, if truth be told, it makes him slightly uneasy. A man with a sword is a known quantity. A magician ... well, if even half the stories and fables are true, they can do things an ordinary person can barely comprehend. If a powerful magician is behind the kidnapping, then Jaan doesn't fancy their chances of resolving the issue.

"If it is possible, then we should look into it."
