Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

Wilhelm observes the area as well as he can. Most of his attention is captured by Troi, however, who surprises him with acts of meticulous and careful searching. Wil could not imagine that the wilderness bred such a competent detective.

Ayratha be blessed, there are still things for me to discover.

[sblock=Jaan]It occurs to Jaan that if the looser of a struggle was carried out the window, it would appear that only one of them was actualy going out the window.[/sblock]

[sblock=Lasair]While you can't think of anything in particular, there are many ways to get out of a window without climbing the building using psionics or magic.[/sblock]

"It looks like the egress may have been aided by some of your Westerner magic. If so, it could not have been Carsis, as he is a Bard, and Bards are too incompetent at magic to perform such effects."

Troi looks to Lasair. "Dunno 'bout that... Oirhandir seemed ta know a thing er two 'bout magic, an' I knew a guy by th' name a Velbrik who was one a them Nobius bards, er somethin', an' he seemed ta know a good deal."

"Th' real question, though, is how they got inta th' room in th' firs' place. My guess is they came in through th' door, an' th' tracks're gone. But they mighta come in another way, y'know? I'm jus' sayin' we shouldn't make any 'sumptions 'bout what went on... they prolly came in through th' door, but best not ta say anythin' unless we're sure a it."

Jaan Saaresar, male human Servant of the Greenman.

Jaan reads over the note, then reads over it again more carefully. Catching part of the conervsation, he looks over to Troi.

"What if one person were being carried? You said there were tracks for two, but only one went out the window? Or did I misunderstand."

Jaan hands the letter over to Wilhelm.

"What do you think?"

"If the abductor had access to a spell like Dimension Door," he says to Lasair, "then I fear we have little chance of tracking them. I have only ever heard of it in legends. Of course, levitate or flight are much simpler spells and might do the trick equally as well. Althogh I couldn't say for sure. A rope would, definately.

Lasair
"Right. With flight or perhaps a Dimension Door ability, they could have come from anywhere."

Troi shakes his head. "I don' think they flew, there's still tracks goin' out th' window..."

Jaan
"What if one person were being carried? You said there were tracks for two, but only one went out the window? Or did I misunderstand."

Troi nods. "There's tracks fer at least two in th' room, but only one set goin' out. I s'pose 'at could be th' case... dunno, though. An' it would make sense, since they kidnapped 'er... prolly wouldn' want 'er goin' on 'er own feet."

Jaan

"My understandin' a such magic is 'at it only goes a little way. Ya gotta land somewhere - an' where feet touch th' ground, there's gonna be tracks."

"But if they were usin' magic... there's gotta be limitations, an' there's still th' one set a tracks goin' out th' window. I dunno if ya could carry somebody while ye're climbin' down a rope... possible, sure, but how likely, y'know?"

Pician heads off in the direction of his study, but Bernard stays outside. "If you would wish good sirs, I can lead out out back around the window if you wish to look outside. Lord Pician looked for tracks there himself, but he is a hunter of animals, not men."

Troi nods. "Well, if th' others're done 'ere, I'd like ta have a look out back. Might be able ta fin' somethin' in groun' 'at kin hold tracks better'n what's in 'ere, y'know?"
