Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

One of the guards looks at Lasair, who seems to be eyeing the food but not taking any. "Help yerself. Lord Pician always has the cooks put out a spread for the staff and guests. Helps keep spirits high and all you know."

"Well, I might expect a man to set out food and just grab it and start eating at random, but even to just leave the water sitting there...does Holdmistress Niobe approve of this? I don't know if I would feel right taking a clanhold's water without an invitation."

"I believe it was her idea. Used to be just some bread, but since she came, it's always been a big production."

Lasair sees several pitchers of water, milk, and juice out as well.

*Lasair seems visibly indecisive and slightly anxious and agitated as she contemplates the dueling discourtesies of taking a Holdmistress's water without invitation and the far worse crime of refusing an offer of water, which is lessened by the fact that it is an implicit invitation by proxy. In the end, the fact that the Holdmistress is kidnapped and therefore has done her best to offer water in her absense wins out, and Lasair's inner conflict ends. She smiles:*

"Thank you kind warrior. Your hospitality is a credit to your clan."

*She then heads over to get some food and drink. She first takes a glass of water and performs her usual ceremony of offered water, albeit to empty air since Niobe is not around. After that, she takes some juice, bread, and cheese.*

Jaan Saaresar, male human servant of the Greenman

--- LORD PICIAN'S MANOR ---

The more time Jaan spends with Lasair, the more he begins to understand some of her more unusual reactions.

"Water is plentiful in this part of the word. There are few, if any who ever go short. I'm sure that Lord Pician would be appriciative of your respect for his property. But feel free to drink as much as you need."

After breaking fast, Jaan adds a bit of cheese and bread to his bag if no-one has any objections. Something to break the monotony of hard rations. If he has time, Jaan heads out to check on the horses and the prisoner, taking some food and water to the man if no-one has already done so. This time, unlike last night, Jaan wears his armour and carries his two maces.

[sblock=ooc]Jaan can heal Lasair for 2 hp before retiring. I had forgotten that Jaan will get the 1hp he was down back after a night's rest. I believe Wilhelm had some orissons available as well, so hopefully Lasair will be pretty close to full by the morning. A couple of theem along with Jaan's Lay on Hands would be enough to bring her up to 15, and a night's rest should do the rest.[/sblock]

(OOC: The 11 is after resting, I'm afraid. The two orisons plus Lay on Hands will be enough--she can manage with 15/16 :))

"Thank you Jaan Saaresar. I do know that by now...these western lands are strange, but just because it is plentiful does not mean that water is not precious. It is impossible to consider such an affront, at least for me. I am sorry."

Wilhelm does not spare an instant to use some of his Goddess' blessings upon Lesair. With but two incantations, he diminishes the worst of her wounds to mere bruises.

He takes his leave with a bow and goes to his room to rest soon after.

***

Rest comes quickly to him and the dawn, quicker still. He greets the sun's coming with an hourglass' worth of meditation. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, he looks deep into the flame of his lantern.

Ayratha's strength is in the flame, just as her flame tempers strength. After each instance of prayer, Wil always feels renewed, spiritually revived no matter his physical condition.

Thus, despite the events of the night before, he descends to the breakfast table with a calm soul. Like Jaan, he is attired for war though he is not armed. He dines silently, his mind only on the march to come and the hardships upon it.

Troi meanders into his room once they reach the manor, and quickly falls asleep on the floor.

He awakens in the morning with a start, then he calms down. He proceeds to douse his hair with water and put it into its usual loose ponytail. Once that is done, he seats himself and clears his mind, focusing on the teachings he learned from Zidaniel.

He then rises, and looks over his weaponry. After a moment of consideration, the ranger shrugs, and proceeds to restore each weapon to its appropriate place on his person. He then glances in the mirror, adjusting his armor a bit, then nods to himself.

Once that is done, he follows the scent of food.

"Mornin'." He says gruffly to his companions, as he seats himself.

He then proceeds to eat sparingly, varying his selection.

Jaan Saaresar, male human Servant of the Greenman

Jaan greets Wilhelm and Troi as they arrive. Jaan gives them a chance to eat before getting down to business.

"If we are going to follow last nights lead from the bandits, do we get horses?"

[sblock=ooc]Jaan can heal up Lasair's bruises in the morning.[/sblock]
