No armor penalty to reflex/touch-AC saves?

Wow, to think it took me this long to realize that the Max Dex Penalty only applied to the AC...
Must be a shock to your group that they've playing it wrong.

But if it hasn't affected your interest in D&D, why correct it? ;)

Well, since I haven't played in almost a year, there certainly isn't any harm now. If our group were to get back together playing 3.5e, I would probably note the discrepancy and decide with the group if we play the RAW, or our inadvertent house rule.

Either they use the "Armor as DR" rules and formula from Unearthed Arcana or offer an armor feat that allows DR (for clumsy tanks).

I am happy that they're merging Touch AC and Reflex Saves... this makes pretty good sense to me. (Although, shouldn't some characters have higher Reflex than Touch AC...? Hmm... Well... I dunno. We'll see. I guess this is what feats are for.)

I hope they don't make armor=DR, though. At least not the way they did it in Iron Heroes, where you have to roll a die to see how much DR your armor provides for every attack. Bleaggghhh! Maybe as a separate feat, though, at the top of a feat chain... or adding a very teeny bit of DC to really powerful armor... just not that extra die roll.

Let's simplify emcumbrance rules!

There's actually a great idea at the root of this thread. The negative affects of both armor and general equipment are long past due for a simpler system.

Maybe the answer is that they all negatively effect Dex.

The only skills that armor currently effects that aren't Dex-linked are Climb and Swim. That little technicality can be addressed somehow, I'm sure. :)

Maybe the encumbrance rules should be changed to a simple set of guidelines for the DM to apply.

Okay two of you can carry the sarcophagus out of the dungeon to try and sell on the open market (sigh), your both encumbered (standard mods, -10 all rolls, move action, etc..)

One of my PCs (I'm DM) is walking around with 600ft of rope, I just really couldn't be bothered, I gave them a bag of infinite holding and they throw everything in there, it make the game go quicker...

We love that! We've house ruled it into our 3.5 games also. It does a great job of allowing armor to provide decent DR, w/o making the wearer completely immune to low-damage weapons.

If they follow Star Wars Saga rules, AC is rolled into Reflex Defense. And yes, (REF, FORT, WILL) saving throws are out, (REF, FORT, WILL) defenses are in.

Then be glad that WotC do not publish the Iron Heroes line.

I'm referring to the "Armor as DR" rules in Unearthed Arcana (not Arcana Unearthed), the most recent 3.5e version.

I'm glad yo know that "effect" and "affect" are different words. But you're using them exactly backwards.
