no text in image verification

I just tried to create a new account, but I couldn't pass the image verification step. The image always seems to contain a background texture but no actual letters or numbers. (I'm human, I think.) The problem occurs in both Safari 3 on my Mac and Firefox 3 on our PC.

(I was actually trying to create a new account because I just wanted to change my user name. Then I saw another thread in this forum requesting a name change. If it's not too much trouble, can mine be changed to "Pseudopsyche"? Thanks!)

That one makes me nervous - to get it to work I have to rebuild php. I'd rather wait for IronWolf or Leopold to do it. I've done it, but I always worry about blowing the machine up when I do it - I'm *not* comfortable with it.
