Not surprised, sadly. I’m increasingly convinced that G.R.R. Martin is an average writer that had an amazing idea, and is increasingly struggling to hold onto it.
I thought A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms and The World of Ice and Fire were both great, though. The tale of Dunk and Egg, in particular, was well-written - I think not having a gazillion POV characters helped. And the history book made me sad that we'll not see more of some of the awesome places and events depicted therein.
