Rogue if you want to continue expanding your skills and sneakingness.

Fighter if you want to fight better.

Both as you advance?

Maybe barbarian if it works for the character idea?

I would suggest the Iron Kingdoms ranger. It's too bad they don't sell that class as a $1 PDF or something. That's what I used the last time I played a ranger. Loads of fun. If I had known about the Scout's skirmish ability at the time, I would have seen if I could trade favored enemy for that. That, adding two or three class skills, and updating to 3.5 makes the IK ranger perfect.

I *like* the favored soul. Except for the dumb-butt assumption that every diety is going to grant a character wings ( ) ... At that level, assuming a character has stuck with it long enough, I'd prefer to let him pick a feat or work with the DM on an appropriate benefit.

Get rid of the Lurk, Lurk, Lurk! Stupidest name ever! LURK!

What are you supposed to put your 4th level into?

Long-term mutual funds.

Give it ten, fifteen years and you'll be level 9 without having to kill a single thing!
