Non-Jedi and lightsabers

Well a non force user may be able to use a lightsaber, but he better have a very good reason for having one since lightsabers require the use of the force in it's construction (from I, Jedi and various other novels.)

Yeah, the character would have to aquire the lightsaber from somewhere else, as it requires a special ritual to imbue the crystals correctly. Non-Force Users can't really do that...

So I take it there is no rule that says non-jedi can't use lightsaber because if they can't my bounty hunter character who uses a dark jedi's lightsaber the same lightsaber that killed his father. To hunt down and kill his prey until he finds that dark jedi.

Question; How did the the dark jedi lose his light saber? He won the fight with the father but I don't think he would just leave the the light saber there for any reason short of a mortal wound. Maybe the light saber the bounty hunter uses actually belonged to his criminal father, a non jedi, who was using it to frame the real jedis? Thinking his father was honest and just, he just assumed the jedi which killed him was evil.

This is a debatable point. In the RotJ Radio Drama (where the whole align-the-crystal thing came from in the first place), Luke is attempting to construct his new lightsaber without the use of the force. He doesn't succeed, however. It is only when he uses the force to focus his concentration does he succeed. Since he was attempting to do it sans force, it must at least be possible, just really, really hard.

Or Luke just had no real idea what exactly he was doing...heh, probably the worst example of any kind of Jedi tradition will always be Luke, as he got the biggest crash course in being a Jedi in the history of Star Wars. :)

According to SWd20, at least, it DOES require the Force to focus the crystals.

How my character got the dark jedi's lightsaber is because his father's best friend and constant companion was a wookie. After seeing him killed he ripped off the dark jedi's arms, beat him to death with them and took his lightsaber.

Sounds fun.

Except that the character's goal is to hunt down and kill this dead dark jedi.

I like the idea, it just needs to be made self-consistent. Is he dead or isn't he?

Yeah, but if only these forum posts had tone behind them, you'd see I agree with you.

Oh, sure. I hope there was nothing wrong with my tone. Trying to be helpful, really. For some reason it seemed a good idea to respond to your post rather than warlord's.

Though I still think the weightless blade would make it harder to use. Just a problem with human perceptions.

And the old WEG rule was if you missed an attack by ten or more, you hit yourself.
