Northern Crown?

Doug, that sounds like a great campaign. Can you tell us more about it?

Myself, I’ve wanted to play with the idea of ergot (a hallucinogenic fungus that provides a basis for LSD- it infects grains) inspiring the delusions that led to the Salem Witch Trials. What if somebody purposefully planted a dosage of ergot on a much more massive scale than happened in real life? I think it might make for a good basis for a war campaign between the Puritanical Commonwealth and the Witchlings of Naumkeag. Who would be lurking behind the scenes, gaining from the downfall of both nations as they destroy each other?

On a more fantastic note, I've been trying to discover alternatives for the people of Northern Crown to develop rather than slavery. The world is fantastic in that it has natural philosophers and wizards both able to make artificial constructs that could replace slaves and indentured servants. Although there's really been no move against slavery by the Uropan powers, I would suspect that there could be a great demand within religion (all Clerics are good) to do away with slavery. This would leave a niche open for cheap constructs to fill. Perhaps using the Warforged from Eberron for this might be fun; they might have a status similar to droids in Star Wars.

I've passed on my notes to Gareth at Adamant; he's going to write it and AFAIK release it before the end of the year.

Yup. My plan is to release as close to Halloween as possible, but truthfully, with my plate as full as it is, it'll probably be more likely to be on the November side of Halloween. :)

Sounds good. Looking forward to it.

Anyone knows if NC is/will be available on PDF? I saw it at the store last weekend, but as good as it looked, I couldn't see myself paying $30 for it. I would buy it on PDF at the drop of a pin, though.

The more I read the more intrigued by the book I become. Social Rank and Fencing rules particularlly interest me, the classes look good too, but I haven't really deleved into them to the degree I would like yet. The world is interesting, but am still thinking I may take the rules and run it in a more "realistic" campaign setting.

Got it and the Gazetter @ GenCon and love reading through it.
Don't have a place for it in my campaign yet -- though the characters
are plane-hoppers. While it sounds cheesy, I would love to throw
Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson at them (their names are different in the
Gazetter and I don't have it in front of me.)

In the original campaign that served as the basis for Northern Crown, my generic D&D campaign served as Faerie for the Northern Crown campaign. So when the Northern Crown PC's found a fairy gate between the worlds, they were able to have more traditional D&D adventures in a pseudo-medieval world filled with dragons, elves, and magic. To the inhabitants it was just "the world", but to the Northern Crown-ites, it was a strange neverland out of fairy tales. Very economical solution, that!
