Notes on the Aether (Rae judging)

Keldar swings his attention back to Rapture, and shakes his head, while continuing to sing:

"Valessa's servant of the sword,
The paladin called Rapture,
The greatest danger men can face,
Oh! the hearts that she will capture!"

Rapture pauses for a moment and feels for something in her back pack. Her face goes blank for a moment, before she resumes smiling and walking. She wipes something out of her eye, pulls her head up high, and continues walking.

Keldar might have noticed something odd about Rapture's response to the verse in her honour, but he is too busy belting out his own:

"Keldar – can we sing his praise,
In verses quite so short?
He’s brave and fast and daring,
And never will get caught!"

And apparently his verse is twice as long as the rest:

"Keldar, Keldar, Keldar, Keldar,
Keldar, bold Warbray,
Keldar, Keldar, Keldar, Keldar,
Keeeeldaaaar…. Anyway."

He catches himself before the song has a chance to become repetitive.

[sblock=Solange] Poor Helen. But then, Keldar doesn't know.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Nope, nor has he or anyone asked. Not that she'd tell... though you never know...

And why do I imagine you singing the last one to the Dradle song?[/sblock]

Rapture chuckles, "I think it needs a little work."

"True," says Keldar. "There's no mention of my handsomeness or modesty. Now at last:

"Am I forgetting anyone?
Of course, I am, of course!
The centre of our party:
Bubbles, Sammy’s horse!"

[sblock=OOC]Darn, I'd have to drop one of the Keldars from each line, and then it would be just, er... perfect. Hey, one rank in Perform (singing) and a Wis of 8... you get what you get. And Keldar's no better.[/sblock]

Sammy gives a gentle laugh upon hearing the last verse. "It's good that you feel light at heart, Keldar, though while travelling in the wilderness it might not be best to stay completely at ease, like that furry little encounter back there proved." Smiling, she adds. "I've heard that such chance encounters - if pursued to their full extent - often result in amazing discoveries and treasures found. But then again, my information on the matter might be slightly... out of date." A hint of red reaches her cheeks as she remembers the many, many times she pestered her mother to read tales of heros, dragons and whatnot from the vast library back home.

"However," her voice takes a more serious shade to it even though amusement still shines from underneath. "I'm disappointed that you didn't mention carrots in a song about Bubbles." Managing to hold a pout for approximately three beats of her hummingbird's heart, she bursts out in a longer and higher laugh and reaches into her pack to withdraw one of the previously-mentioned snacks for her steed.

[sblock=OOC]Am I the only one who considers that my writing might be a bit too complex? I'm trying to avoid repeating terms and thus use synonyms excessively, but is it fluent to read?[/sblock]

"An opportunity lost, if you will admit 'carrot' to rhyme with 'ferret'. Your advice is taken to heart, Samina. My full attention is given to our well-being, from now on."
[sblock=OOC] Yes, quite the only one. I find your writing a pleasure to read.[/sblock]

"Well... 'carrot' does rhyme with 'ferret.' I can admit that. And," she continues, pondering out loud. "I suppose it fits the theme better than 'parrot' or 'garrote.' Unless we lived in a jungle or were criminals." Her face relaxes as she starts thinking about themes that might combine the two words she suggested.

[sblock=OOC]Ah, good. False alarm then.[/sblock]
