Notes on the Aether (Rae judging)

"Perhaps I'm not too pretty to die after all," muses Keldar. He stabs at the unwounded elemental with his dagger, missing as the flames waver out of the way, but even as it does so, he brings his morningstar slamming through its body. Then, eyes on the newcomers, he tries to edge further away from them.

OOC: attacks are 1d20+2(Str)+2(cowering)-2(TWF)=1d20+2. 1d20+2=9, 1d4+2=3; 1d20+2=17, 1d8+1=5; 5' step away from the oncoming elementals, behind a sheltering paladin if at all possible.
Of course I expect the new elementals will act before Keldar this turn and take him out before any of the above can happen.

"There are others coming? You lot go and deal with them. Tommy and I can manage these."

"Tommy, they're sitting targets. Our crossbows should be adequate to the task."

Tarag stows morningstar and shield and then loads his crossbow. As soon as the others are out of his way he fires at the cowering elemental in front of him.

[sblock=OOC]I assume that from where he is, Tarag can target F2.

Notes on the Aether; ranged attack on rebuked fire elemental F2 (1d20=17, 1d8=5)[/sblock]

Tarag said:
"Tommy, they're sitting targets. Our crossbows should be adequate to the task."
"Er, if you say so,"Tommy says, casting a nervous eye towards where Keldar keeps edging away from. He carefully stows his wand, unslings his crossbow, and grabs a bolt.

ooc: I'm not completely sure I grasp the rules for crossbows, but I'm thinking I won't be able to fire it this round? 1 move to put the wand away, possibly free to get the crossbow out (bab +1, but the rules say "as part of a regular move", so possibly not), free to get a bolt out, and move to load it. So that's at least two moves, possibly three, before I could shoot. Have I got that right?

OOC: I'm assuming Galwynn moves before he attacks? I'll place him just south of Keldar.

Galwynn moves up the stairs, past the cowering elementals, and slashes at one. (7 damage to F2) Its brightness diminishes, but it does not fizzle out of existence.

After Galwynn moves, he notices the earth elemental on the dais. He also notices that the earth elemental is moving towards him. And then he notices, far too late, that the earth elemental's fist is heading straight for his face. The hunk of solid rock connects (25, crit confirm 15) and nearly floors Galwynn (9+9=18 damage). Galwynn notices that his face is bleeding. He does not fall, yet.

Tommy puts away his wand and draws his crossbow. (2 moves)

Rapture swings and misses. (No, you can't move there, that's a solid wall.)

Keldar smacks Rapture's fire elemental with his morningstar. (5 damage to F1)

That same fire elemental quivers, still awed by Tarag's divine might.

The column of fire that Keldar first spotted in the door comes flying down the hallway. It plants its base on the floor in front of Galwynn and lurches (11) at him, but the earth elemental allows Galwynn to find some cover from the flames, and he remains uncrispy.

The other fire elemental comes forward also, but it can't find an opening. It slips through the crowd and hovers around for a moment, finally coming to rest near Rapture at the top of the stairs.

The dim flame near Galwyn quivers, much like the one near Rapture.

Tarag fires a bolt into this quivering elemental. It flies straight through its center, meets some resistance, and then falls to the ground amid a poof of ash. (F1 falls) Tarag puts away his stuff.

OOC: quite right, and the same for Tarag (move action to stow shield, move action to stow morningstar, move action to ready crossbow... etc.) Thank goodness the paladins moved out into a defensive line ahead of the advancing elementals, instead of standing still at the head of the stairs, leaving 6 HP Keldar exposed and providing soft cover versus missile fire for the elementals. Oh, wait.

Edit: Oh, whatever.

Updated map.

OOC: Galwynn couldn't have attacked anything from his position on the stairs, so I moved him. And thank the gods, too, because Keldar would be earth pulp.

OOC: Keldar thanks all 37 gods and unapproved Psergei.

Keldar shifts his weight and smashes the elemental that threatens Rapture. Letting his dagger fall to the ground, he yanks a flask from his belt and holds it out to Galwynn. "Healing potion, take it, take it...."

OOC: attack on F4 1d20+2=18, damage 1d8+2=9; dropping dagger as free action; move action to draw potion from belt for poor Galwynn.

ooc: If Tommy steps to the square between Rapture and Tarag, is he far enough up the stairs to have line of sight for spells on the elementals in the room? What I'd like to do is cast color spray to catch the F1, E1, and F3 without catching Galwynn. If that's not possible, he'll shoot his crossbow at F2.

OOC: Sorry if the map's not clear. The wooden floor is not actually accessible to you right now, it's behind a solid stone wall. Your movement is limited to the stairs and that stone hallway. So no, moving up the stairs to that spot would only give Tommy LoS to F2 and F4.

Keldar's morningstar comes crashing down on the elemental. He feels some resistance, but he pushes hard, and a tip of his spiked weapon punctures the elemental's fiery core. It instantly dissipates into ash. (F4 falls)
