[Nov] What Are You Playing?

Sid Meier's Railroads! (mostly just train table mode to kill a bit of time of an evening)
Defcon (at least a little bit)

I SHOULD be playing Civ IV but I'm not.
I should be playing City of Heroes/Villians since I'm still paying for it, but I'm not.

I'm NOT playing World of Warcraft since having not played it for at least 2 months I decided to cancel my account and put the money to better use. Will probably do this with COH soon as well...

Game I will buy if I pick up a Wii:

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

Don't let the lack of a Wii stop you from playing, after all you can always pick up the Cube version. It's not like the graphics will be all that different.

Game that is still sitting unplayed but purchased over a year ago that I pre-ordered:

Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2)

Bah, bugger that. Get subsistence and have control of the camera!

World of Xeen and Divine Divinity.

How's the past treating you?

Never got all that far in World of Xeen myself, my brother however spent a fair amount of time with it. No comment on DD, I am not like John!

Actually it would be "not different at all" (except 16:9 widescreen, which isn't worth a Wii no matter how you slice it).

And the GCN version is supposed to control better, too (as of a few months ago, though)...

Those old M&M games were some of the best rpgs EVER. That's what gameplay is all about, nevermind smancy graphics.

DD is okay, pretty much a Diablo 2 clone, not as linear, and not a continual clickfest, a lot more role playing involved, though I still wouldn't call this game an rpg.

I don't usually buy 2 "new" (that is, just released and full priced) games in a month, and I've already ordered NWN2, but I just got Vice City Stories for the PSP.

I'm not a huge fan of the GTA games, but Vice City was great, since I used to live in the Florida in the 80s, and it's like a time machine, almost.

Anyway, VCS is nothing short of amazing, from a technical perspective. It looks much, much, much better than VC on the PS2. I guess part of it is because of the screen (LCD, compared to my crappy TV), but almost much sharper. It's not perfect - the trees sort of pop-in suddenly sometimes (Kinda like Oblivion on my PC), and you can see the texture swapping sometimes. But the people in it actually have fingers. And the cars have readable license plates.

Unfortunately, the gameplay isn't so great. At least so far. The main character is likeable, but the story is pretty painful so far. And it's hard. What's worse, you can't save just before a mission, you have to save at your house, then drive all the way to the mission start, then where the mission takes place. That gets old.

The soundtrack is also not as good. Hard to top the original VC, but at least this has some really nice songs. Including Human Touch by Rick Springfield, a song by Rock Master Scott (and not The Roof is on Fire). You can apparently add custom tracks, but I haven't figured that out yet...

This is true, although I am interested in the controller. We'll see.

Good point, although that would mean spending money on a game I already have. Not that I haven't done that before... *hmm*
