November and Beyond

It is finally up. The only really interesting thing to me is the stuff from FCII. Those two sections are certainly well written.

Well, apparently they are dismissing the Twin Law Serpent myth in favor for the "fallen from heaven" one. That's good. Here's hoping the rest is as good.

Yeah it's better that way since the whole Serpent thing, while good for Asmodues, kind of dismissed the other 1st edition material that people did like.

Having rarely used the planes as stated in the MotP, just how similar / dissimilar is the stated Blood War material from the prior edition Blood War material? How has the Blood War differed from edition to edition? Did it exist in 1st edition? What about 2nd? AD&D? Planescape? Current 3.5e?

For some reason the adventures seem to be getting my interest more than they did previously. I still haven't bought any WotC adventures but the Red Hand of Doom and Expedition to Castle Ravenloft are definitely on my wanted list. The new series of adventures that they are releasing (starting with Scourge of the Howling Horde) looks like being added to the list too.

And this is despite the fact that I have more than enough adventures to last me for years to come. I think they must be putting some kind of subliminal messages in their web pages!

Olaf,

That or you just getting tired of Necromancer Games and Goodman games competing for your attention. ;)

Nye,

You'd have to ask Shem. He/she's a Loth that would know such things. :p :)

It didn't exist in 1e, and the planes weren't really as defined then either (Eladrin, Guardinals, and Rilmani for instance didn't exist in 1e).

2e AD&D introduced the Blood War (pre-Planescape), introduced the Baatezu/Tanar'ri/Yugoloth naming conventions, etc.

Planescape fleshed it out and made it into one of the primary influences on the entire outer planes, and the largest on the lower planes, touching each and every fiendish race, splitting the celestials down the middle, and everyone having their own desired outcome (or their own desired lack of an ultimate outcome). Hellbound: The Blood War is, hands down, the most comprehensive source on the topic.

For the moment the situation in 3.x is similar to that in Planescape.

What 1st edition material would that be? There was no origin myth for Asmodeus or Baator in 1e that I'm aware of. Neither the Greenwood articles, nor the 1e MotP cover Baatorian pre-history.

Really? I could have sworn there was. Darn you Vecna and your mind messing madness! :p ;)

Glad to know the Blood War is still pretty much the same as it was before. ;)

Necromancer is still definitely up there. I plan to run the Crystal Skull once my group has finished Madness in Freeport and Racing the Snake (from Dungeon). I actually only own "The Dragonfiend Pact" from Goodman Games but I am waiting on "The Adventure Begins" and a few other DCC's do look interesting.
