NPC Level System

I'm beginning to get back to writing and development, now that the holidays have slowed down. I have finished developing the NPC level system that will be used in Ancient / Modern Awakenings. In this case, I thought I would share it with you guys as a sort of late X-Mas present.

These charts basically show how NPC characters that are not mainstream to the storyline are treated. This is meant to be used for the shopkeepers, average soldiers, and petty nobles of your setting. The only real change is that they only get one hp per die (plus con bonus, if any). This allows NPC characters to have levels above first without unbalancing the game. Just remember to divide the XP worth of the encounter based on how far below 'average' their HP are. (A wizard would be worth 1/2 the XP, while a fighter would be worth only 1/5)

The first chart is for rolling up NPC characters of random level based on age and education. Keep in mind that this is for NPCs who do not adventure on a regular basis.

The second chart shows the average level of an NPC based on how many dice he was allowed from education and age. The listed ages are based on their being commoners, and so their education is treated as 'low'. In Modern Awakenings, their education would probably be 'normal'. The ancient human wizard lorekeeper of the Great Kingdoms might have an education of 'complete' and be up to 9th level.

Monsters, major villains, and heroes are still treated as normal, and gain standard HP.

Since the charts cannot be shown here very well, I've posted them to my website and created a link.

Perhaps I should go back to stories?

Perhaps I should go back to stories?

Nobody seems very interested in the rules samplers, so I was wondering if you guys were only wanting the story teasers?

Mr. Oberon
"Crunchy, creamy... What are you guys talking about?"
