[NWN] Morrus, I have serious problem with one of my Characters on the server... Help!

Chaz

First Post
I lost conn while playing Kell Aura and when I tried to log in again I got a message screen that came up saying - [ Invalid Character - Player login refused - Item equipped with an "Item Level" disallowed by server restrictions ]

All the items I have are from in game. I had just been given a magic weapon by the group I was playing with, which is the only new item I think I got. But as far as level restrictions... It was +3 with some fire damage(forget the name on it... somebody else remember?) ... Ive seen much more powerful weapons so surely its not to high level.

Anyway I cant get in on this character now. Any ideas? Please help if you can. I will be on with Chazman for a while tonight.... I hope though that Kell can be fixed. Thanks in advance.... I had just made a new level and reset all my spell macros... Hate to lose all that work.

Peace

As it happens, I have the exact same problem, with the exact same message, on a character I did and avanced recently, Venorael Feille, an elf Wiz6. I'm positive he hasn't got anything too high in his inventory, and more than positive that he can't have it equipped, since item level restrictions are there to prevent you from equipping the restricted item. ;)

I sure hope it's fixable before the problem happens to other people.

And while we're talking about fixes, can you look at the spawning items in the Forgotten Forest, Morrus, please? I've been through the whole place again, finding the spots where pieces of a very important item (you know the one, a specific Staff) appeared, and they're there, just inactive (bones, in one case). Nobody has been able to find all pieces since that particular tweak was made, I think, even though I know people have been looking hard (ain't that right, Angcuru, Bognar and others?).

Thanks in advance, and sorry to report problems again!

Kell's weapon, if i remember correctly, is called Angry Soul.
level 16 restriction (IIRC)
Were you that high Kell?

I also hope Kell can be fixed!!!!!! :(

Ouch.

Just as a little annecdote, I had a weird accident on a server vault as well. After the server crashed, I had the character of another account in my list. It's still there, because I cannot delete it... :\

That's very odd.

I have no idea what I could do to help, though. Anybody have any thoughts? Is this something to do with NWN itself, or something the DM can affect?

Valn (and Morrus),

I had the Staff of Anduin in my inventory for days and days before I attained the level necessary to use it and thus equip it, and I never had that problem.

The message, when the log-in is refused, specifically says that Kell and I have something equipped, and it's simply not possible, even if we have level-restricted items. My uneducated guess is that the various hard reboots that were made (and that were really necessary to make, no criticism intended) may have reawakened a buggy safety measure built into the mod. Just a wild guess, mind you.

All right, I think I know what happened, at least.

I did a bit of searching on the official boards for PoA, and it seems that if you cast Continual Flame on an item that you can use, it boosts its item level, so to speak. So you can use that item, you can equip it, but, *for the server*, it has become invalid.

I know I did it on one of Venorael's (my affected character) items for a convenient source of light, and I'm pretty sure Kell has done the same.

It seems this is fixable, by the DM, but they don't say how.

Morrus, can you, um, "manifest" our chars and check for an item or items in their inventory that has had Continual Flame cast on it? (It should say in item properties, "Light, Bright, 20 m" or something like that.) Or at worst remove item level restrictions just for the time it would take us to log-in, unequip and probably get rid of the modified item, and then reinstall them?

My, this is wicked, considering that an in-game hint prompts you to do just that particular bit of spellcasting. :(

I found this link on Bioware's forums. It seems like it might have to do with crashes. Also seems like if Morrus can turn off the ILR (item level restriction) long enough for the characters to log-in, then perhaps leave the item on the floor, they could be salvaged.

Elendiel (posting while I'm writing this)
Aah, yes the ILR has to do with item price (once found an emerald I couldn't use ;) ), so effectively, continual lights boosts the price and this IRL...

Continual Flame (Ah, the Gods are angry!)

Oh my...and this is after I cast CF on items for several people. And I know other Mages have been doing the same. Do we need to put out a warning about this particular spell? Please, say it's not so! :(

This particular problem I have had happen to me and seen happen to others on other servers. For some strange reason a copy of someone elses character ends up in your vault.

On the other server I was on it was a problem for a short while as it effectively allowed some newbs to use soemone elses character..which prevented the actual person from logging on as the actual character because only one with a particular name can be on a server at one time.

Although the character is a copy of someone elses it also means you can effectively take all the money and items off of this copy and thereby gain access to things you wouldn't normally. This doesnt remove the items from the original character as this is only a copy.. but again it is a "fairdom" issue.
