Oathbound - an overlooked setting?

The god's power slowly trickles out of the planet (aptly called the Forge) and allows people to personally evolve (old system was powers for xp, new is power in place of levels) and causes other funky things.

Ummgh! I know that a lot of people don't have this problem, but I have always hated Prestige Classes, because I don't want to give up levels in my class for levels of something else (plus, I have yet to ever see a PrC that my PC could qualify for)! Levels without HPs really seems like a BAD idea, to me! Has that been addressed?

While there were three or four PrRs that I might have taken, under the old rules, giving up a level for them (as written in ODotF) wouldn't be worth it, to me. YMMV. Now if the levels were all put together, and some HP and Save Bonuses came along with it, it might be worth it, at least on a case-by-case basis.

The new prestige racial levels do come with save bonuses, BAB and hp. Some are naturally higher or lower than others to balance them out or for some other logical reason, i.e. high Reflex bonus for a prestige racial level that bestows a Dexterity-oriented power or ability.

I finished reading the "Matters of Prestige" chapter, yesterday. I finally found a PrC that I can ALMOST qualify for (but then, I always considered my PC a Stalker, even without it)! He just needs a few skill ranks. No other real comments than the ones I posted earlier, though...

I also looked at some of the dossiers on the Feathered Flock. Some interesting stuff, there, I guess, but my main impression was:

Someone has been reading New Mutants! Kill Small S'ym, and you will have to take his place! Okay, okay, X-Men had it, too!

I also found it odd that no alignments are given, and the book basically says that "one can only know them by their actions". I still say they're demons! :p Same thing with The Nameless One (Grey Stranger/Bound God). No info, here... not even a name... I guess that's so that the GM can do whatever he wants?

The "minimum" Avatars look quite powerful. What level spread do you guys see PCs being before they can defeat an Avatar? Epic, at least, I take it?

Since He-who-became-Colopitiron somehow freed The GS, it would appear that a few more "defeats" would free the BG, since he is stronger, now. You've said that this isn't really where you wanted the setting to go... So what is the point? Do you allow the PCs in your games to discover the secrets (and if so, how)? If so, once they know that killing a FF-member binds them to the Forge, what then?

I said that and I am not a company person (I am a very vocal fan). The point is to find the answers of what is the Forge and how to return home with all kinds of cool powers. I mentioned on OB.net that a small group of merchants would make a killing by planeshifting materials and people back and forth from the Forge.

The "adventure path" presented in Plains of Penanace-Wrack and Ruin-Arena goes down the path of finding out more about the Black Flock and the Bound God. Personally, my campaigns haven't gone that direction, focusing more on the ancient nature of the Forge, and discovering lost artifacts. Part of the problem is that several of my players have a few of the aforementioned books, and know (at least generally) what's going on regarding the Bound God. The great thing about Oathbound is that it's so expansive, there's room for just about any kind of campaign.

Well, I read the section on the seven domains, yesterday... It was one of the best, so far! I think I know what Bathkol is up to, but... eh, I could be wrong.

Over all, the Forge is looking like an excellent place to get killed in! :p Are the mortality rates high among your PCs, GMs?

A somewhat one-sided thread ;)!

Anyway, I think Oathbound contained already many ideas from Eberron before Eberron even existed as a concept, plus a lot of other interesting stuff. Let's see what Wildwood brings. Is there anything else planned after that, or does this all depend on how well Wildwood will perform?

After Wildwood we have the Oathbound Player's Guide, tentatively scheduled for fall. I believe Tom is gearing up to write the Vault, right after he and Tim finish up work on the Book of Curses.

Oh, and by the way. I've seen the final layout for Wildwood. It looks awesome.

Any chance we can buy it this week?

How many critters are there? Any plant monsters?

Does it have that resort for the rich mentioned in PoP?

Is that civilization that kicked Hiael's (sp) butt in it?
