Oathbound - an overlooked setting?

So anyone want to discuss what is up with Bathkol? I was suprised at the amount of information given in W&R and Arena.

Well, I think it's pretty clear that Bathkol has broken free from the Oath of Binding. How is the obvious question. Coloptiron I is (apparently) also running around. It leads to two interesting questions. 1. What are they doing with their freedom? 2. Who's next?

I like Oathbound a great deal. The concepts and imagination used are great. However the greatest thing about it is also its greatest weakness-

The perception of being an EPIC level world only

If you have read the books you know it is not but that was and still is the perception of the world.

I read some of the thoughts here on this thread. I agree this world is under exposed and misunderstood. What can be done about it I'm uncertain. The lack of REGULAR support is harming or at least impedding the game world.

I just wanted to say that anyone that has not tried the game should then make their own decisions on it.

Is it? My perception was that it was yet another d20 game world, which no one I saw or knew of ever talked about. Given that I don't need another (for all I know) generic d20 world, I haven't really looked at it.

I think Oathbound's problem may be a lack of word of mouth.

Huh. I thought he was dead as a doornail since his knuk servants went insane (W&R the pages looking at old bloodholds). Well that and his skin being used as an artifact (adventure in Arena). Kinda hard to survive skinning even if you are semidivine (look at Heracles' death).

But if he is free and the personality given in DOF is acurate, I am guessing he is looking for ways to free his master on other worlds.

Well, I just finished the chapter with the PC races, plants, and critters, and kinda looked over the Matters of Prestige chapter, briefly... The races are okay, I guess, but I thought the rest of that chapter was GREAT! Even the recipe was a cute touch. The plants and critters were awesome!

Matters of Prestige is going to need a lot of work! Requirements are going to have to be redone (all Ambidexteritys replaced with Two-Weapon Fighting (Dovers in the Races chapter, too, since 3.5e doesn't have Ambi!), Intuit Direction & Wilderness Lore replaced with Survival, I guess, City Knowledge replaced with Knowledge (Local), I suppose...

Also, looking at the Foci of the Sphere & Deep, I see no reason why an Adept Creature should need to become Gilled, since they have no need to breathe... Maybe there should be an "out", for that... I know the Prestige Races are being redone, so I thought I'd point that out.

Also, in the current version, if a PC enters Focus of the Sphere, for instance, and has lungs and legs, he moves to the third option (Winged). Does he still get in at fourth level (and pay the lower price in this version, although I understand that this mechanic no longer exists)? Does he have to wait until eighth level and pay 7,500 XP?

Also, on the Shapechange Gift, again, does it allow stuff to be taken with you, as in the Druidic Wildshape? I assume so, but it wouldn't hurt to clarify that point, as Lunars can't take their stuff with them!

I wouldn't sweat the prestige races too much. The mechanic has been completely revamped, beginning with the new PrRs in Wildwood. The Oathbound Player's Guide will convert many of the original prestige races to the new mechanic. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to convert all the older prestige races, but a majority are there.

Someone asked to pimp their favorite d20 setting here: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=204751

And here is what I posted:

Oathbound is a extremely high fantasy setting where the PCs are put through the grinder so that either they die or become more powerful. The domain lords draw people from other world to find those few (like one in a trillion) that can best them and take their place guarding an imprisoned god. The god's power slowly trickles out of the planet (aptly called the Forge) and allows people to personally evolve (old system was powers for xp, new is power in place of levels) and causes other funky things.

Since everything is drawn from other worlds, anything can be on the Forge as long as it is not powerful enough to kill the lords intially. You want jedi, dinosaurs, robots, the X-men, 600 forms of goblins, whatever- it can fit easily.

The domains are a massive city and its environs, a war torn desert, an undead filled arctic wasteland, a forest where predators rule, a volcano and pirate city, a mountain range with giant monsters and wind wizards and an underground land that is controlled by rogues and vampires.

One of the things I like about it alot is there are no published nations that are based on Earth history. They can be added easily, but it is not a pseudo medevel world.
