I think these things should be blind and/or deaf too, just like I think the archer bush should be. What should be the range of its blindsight ability?


For the damage reduction, I could see it having say DR 5/piercing or bludgeoning, since I'd expect to see slashing weapons work against the moss. I can't see DR/magic at all; I would only give that to either a really powerful creature, or a creature that had some sort of pre-3E weapon immunities. If we're giving it the ever-powerful DR/---, maybe 5 is too much - how about 2 or 3?


As for the size, I don't think I would want it to get as big as Medium (individual DMs can always do as they like, of course). Considering it was always 6-inches square, that's a tremendous jump. I'd be willing to go all non-standard and give them up to Small size though.


I like Shade's ideas on the nature and origin of the monster, and I want to play around with that when I get the time. maybe tomorrow.

Psst, BOZ... DR 5/piercing or bludgeoning means that those are the kind of weapons that can work well against it. DR 5/slashing is what you mean.

I still prefer DR 5/- myself. Yes, it's brutal. But the thing has 1 HD, to start with, and a pretty powerful attack. I'm seeing the baseline obliviax as CR 1-2, and with only 1 HD, it needs to be able to survive long enough to make an impact. I could be persuaded to go for 3/-, but would prefer 5/-.

The original text says that "the moss senses intelligent creatures within 60 feet", so that should be the range of its blindsight.

for ability scores, how about Con 15+, Wis 13+, Cha 14+?


we talked about giving it SR, so how high should that be?

SR is usually CR dependant. So, how tough do we want the obliviax to be? I think it should have good SR for its CR, so maybe 13-14 if it's CR 1.

SR 13-14 + CR sounds great, as do the ability scores BOZ presented.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but I think its feat should be Ability Focus (memory theft), since that is its one schtick.
