It's also possible that it's a seperate species. What would be interesting is if it's sterile or not, and if there are others out there.

Another possibility is that it's sort of a middle ground of divergence from a common ancestor - perhaps an offshoot of one or the other before they became fully differentiated.

It just goes to show that we really don't even know what's on our own planet, let alone others...
