Official YB 2.1 Rules Update (May 2-2003)

Sorry to take so long to get around to actually doing this, what with recovering from the holidays and all, but as of this point we are going to implement the two following changes to the YB 2.1 rules.

- Signature Locations now grant immunity just as Signature styles do. This negates the previous rule concerning a -1 point to the score in the case of a signature style successfully used against its owner.

- The Yakuza Path now gains the Master of Shadows at the third tier, i.e. Gang Boss. This is to help even up their standing with the Honor Path. They will also retain the Sneaky trick ability.

No changes will be made yet to the initiative issues, but something will have to be done very soon about sneaky trick (next 24-48 hours) so suggestions are welcome.

[ Update by Meowth-san ]

Current Rule Status:
1. Holy Day no longer forces initiative. Sneaky Trick maintains it's initiative status.

2. Foul Spirit now has the Dark Warrior generate two insults and the Judge chooses the best of the two for considering who wins the insult round.

3. Pure Spirit now allows the Light Warrior to request a new insult round after the first insult round has been judged.

4. Holy Warrior, Unholy Warrior, and Arena Fighter no longer grant immunity.

5. Copper Sash (Tier 2 Yen) gains the Golden Touch ability. The Golden Touch ability grants the Sash a yen for each wealth modifier used in this round.

RETCON: Retroactive Condition Available for Sash fighters who purchased Sneaky Trick (Item) may exchange for another power (of the same cost).

My own personaly suggestion for initiative is to drop it completely, and instead make it constantly alternate, with the winner of the insult round going first in the first round.

Just two problems, the Dark path is now superior to the Light, since they have Foul Spirit instead of Pure Spirit and now gain the same immunities (sneaky trick has slightly less weight but its nothing compared to the ability to set match length and style automatically.)

Also with fixed initiative Holy day and Sneaky trick are really really powerful for light and dark (autowin a round you are going last in, this is really bad in redemption/coruption rounds). Also you can have a Chi Strike used after a sneaky trick (in 1 round) and dirty trick becomes much weaker if you can't use it well in a strategy match because you are going first.

A total drop of initiative, at this point, also skews any sembeance of balance there may be between Yakuza/Honored. Fists of Fury work every round. DT is only possible to work half the time.

For strategy matches it effectively removes DT as a 'threat' to FoF.

I don't like initiative either, however, there needs to be major changes to immunity structures with the Holy/Unholy warrior powers as well as the Dirty Trick itself.

Course my opinion counts for little, I can't get a fight anymore.

Brainless Suggestion #42.

Remove Immunity from Holy/Unholy Warrior. That removes initiative clauses from Holy Day/Sneaky Trick. Kal's going to get mad at me though :P.

Possibly easier to 'chew', give the HD/ST a delayed immunity (only grants immunity on subsequent rounds from when it is activated).

sorry to be gone so long from this discussion.

I was myself thinking of simply removing the immunity from the holy warrior, unholy warrior powers.

My alternative would be to make the powers not kick in until the round after which they are used.

Personally I think the first idea however is simpler in almost every way.

It would most likly be the easiest and least likly to cause ripples (As opposed to universal immunity removal :P). However, as Kal noted, it would be significant to consider the balance/changes that would cause to Light/Dark path. Possibly another poll for decision if we can figure out some alternatives? Although checking poll results, will be less likly to get the active % needed to effect a change.
