OK we know the Sorcerer is Broken, How would you fix him

In one of my present games, the DM requires spell casters to buy components (even if worth < 1 gp) and keep track of how many of each you have on hand. Eschew Components is a great feat for free for the sorcerer.......

I have to add my vote to the it's not broken nor did they get the shaft. The sorcerers that I've seen have not been weak links in the parties they have been in.(except one and that was due to poor spell selection, shield and mage armor as his two first level spells. he was hard to hit but of little use in a fight)

That sounds like a neat variant. But flavor-wise, it seems to me familiars are more appropriate for sorcerers. Hmmm.

Yeah, that is something I also find weird, when people give sorcerers something instead of the familiar. How can they get rid of such a nice and fitting feature. :)

Hey, you can always use a crossbow at low levels. :D

Yes but your DM uses a house rule for this. According to the RAW you don't keep track of negligible cost material components.

Eschew materials is a flavor bit for most practical purposes (so long as it applies for non-priced components.) Notice how in the SRD, they don't even mention what specific components are, just their price (if >= 1 gp)?

To me the summoning of a familar is far more appropriate to a Wizard, who learns and casts spells through trainign and ritual. I could never figure out a reason for a Sorcerer to suddenly bond to some animal. Whereas the familiar bonding process seems a natural thing for a wizard to study.

Am I missing something?

(maybe I should start a new thread about this over in General...)

Bah he's a sorcerer! No need to soil his hand with such base objects! Just cast Launch Bolt... :p

If you follw the Ed Cha philosophy, you can just say he is launching energy bolts from his hands that do crossbow damage and requires a material focus that costs the same as a crossbow. ;)

Well, I see the sorcerer as a natural user of magic, and it seems more likely to me that they, if anyone, would bond with magical creatures.
