Old races

Im trying to get a list of aroyund 7-9 races (maybe more) that could be considered "old" (A.K.A races that are around as old as the elves) please do not post elf rules unless you see them as very non-elfen looking. I am mainly looking for races that are more exotic than your run-of-the-mill people.

Here is an example:


Gray-man: Gray-men are tall, deep gray skinned humanoids that live in large open plains. They live in large cities, the likes of which many races have not seen before. They maintain a rigid society in which laws and ancient traditions are revered with an almost fanatical worship. however, some gray-men leave their homes for a strange sixth-sense.
Personality: gray-men respect laws, but still value freedom. They are willing to break the laws of other soceities if neccesary, but would never break their own laws. They value art, and disdain cultures they see as "barbaric" (anything that is younger than humans at least). They are reclusive and polite, and will usually back down when an argument turns to blows; however, they have a strong sense of honor, and if they or their families honor is insulted (which anyone with enough sense about gray-men knows not to do under any circumstances). They will fight like madmen to the death if necessairlily. They don't have a very good sense of humor and rarely smile or laugh.
Physical description: gray-men are tall and thin, with shallow cheeks, and one, long black coloum of hair, which is usually very long and braided. They have narrow eyes, and a flat nose. They have a small diamond of exposed bone on their forehead, which gets larger as they age (this does no actual harm to the gray-man). they stand about seven feet tall, and weigh from 120 to 140 pounds as they have light, but in no means weak bones.
Relations: most races respect the gray-men, and regard their laws as paranoid. Gray-man merchants are a common sight in some eastern cities.
Alignment: gray men have a strong aversion to chaotic races, but still value freedom. They lean towards lawful good, neutral good, or lawful neutral. A rare few choose to be lawful evil, or neutral evil.
Gray-man lands: gray men live in grassy valleys located to the far east of most races.
Religion; gray-men usually revere lawful gods or deities, or the god Amna-nora, god of spirits.
Language: gray-men speak common, elven, and a language of their own.
Names: Gray-men have a first name (also called a birth-name) followed by an apostrophe, a clan name, and a title

Male names: Aun; dal; gues'; jaere; Kash; O; naero; kael.

Female names: Ayud; hols; dilthi; rekar; Amun; kith; saigath

Clan names: Shava; an bork; shas; la; Shi.

Common titles: wandrerer(shor) warrior(sha) sorcerer/wizard(shaiya) Leader(shaso) great leader(shasa) traitor/barbarion(kakka) preist/monk/cleric(yaelgo) druid(salvor) shaman(yologo) comoner(kolk) slave(ke)

GRAY-MAN RACIAL TRAITS

dex +8
wis +4
con -2
cha -4
int +2
gray-men are fast, smart, and wise. however, their bodies are more frail than most. They also do not make friends easily due to their sense of humor.
gray-man base land speed is 40ft, they are fast.
darkvision
+2 racial saving throws agains all spells, Gray-men have a magical heritige, and so are conditioned to most spell effects.
+3 racial attack bonus against everything that has an intelligence below 10, and against all orcs, half-orcs, and halflings(haflings are one of the youngest races)
automatic languages: common, amnaran(their language) and another of your choice Bonus languages: any. Gray men are taught the languages of others in their schools as children, so it is common for there to be seen a quad-lingual(or more) gray-man.
Favored Class: Monk, sorceror, or wizard
Outlawed clasas: Barbarian
A gray-man may not take levels as a barbarian. To do so, they become a traitor to their kind.


PS: please do post more races, please do. I mean to compile them at the end. Fell free to also make comments.

hmmm, well Tolkien counted the dwarves amoung the oldest races as well (actully, the oldest IIRC, but they weren't released upon the world untill after the elves) so there's definitivly an argument for them.

Other than that, Giants [or Titans], Dragons [intelligent or bestial], and the Fairy races might be considered some of the older ones from earth's mythology, so there are some more right there.

You could snatch some from the MM as well, like the Mindflayer/Illithid for some nice standbys. They could be the creaters of Psionics IYC.

okay, i don't see any LA's here, but i'd call it an easy +3 or maybe even 4. Your link puts them at one, but with +* dex, do you have any idea how much of a bonus that is? along with+3 attack vs MANY races (that's like a few levels inr nger right there.

It's too much, you mihgt want to look to upping the LA
