A few great things to hear in the q&a:
  • there are not going to be any kickstarter-only add ons. That is, anything being included as an add-on will also be for sale separately.
  • their plan is to have OSE continuously in print, and not to do a print run only as the result of kickstarters
  • Gavin is moving away from retroclone material and toward new content, dolmenwood but after that post apocalyptic stuff and psionics. What's cool about this is that OSE will represent a path that was not taken for OD&D/basic, namely expanding the game not through more levels but through character options and settings, like they did with ad&d, but keeping the simplified ruleset of basic.
This is interesting. Their Carcass Zine has some neat ideas. A mage and a sage (kinda priest) without actual spells, but a handful of "magic skills" they can try to cast. Also, the d6 thief skills with point-buy is worth mentioning.

There's some psionics there and space flavor things which I didn't care for (just not what I was looking for), but they seem solid.

Keep the ruleset, add spices. I believe Mothership is taking the same route. I like it. I'd play an urban fantasy or space opera OSE anytime from what I saw from the SRD, and I'm almost certain I'll buy an OSE box set (although not from the kickstarter itself, but from a local translation).

Le sigh. I think I echo so many people on the temptation front... which is bad for me because not only should I be watching my spending, but objectively it's just a shelf ornament. I don't run Basic edition, and if I did, I already have the BECMI books AND Rules Cyclopedia for it anyway so wouldn't need these very pretty, nicely assembled books... so pretty.

Well, I guess I can have them remind me on launch, that can't hurt, right? It's not like they can MAKE me pledge. Right? RIGHT?!?

I think that I am more interested in any Dolmenwood box set, but I have some big questions about how this upcoming OSE Kickstarter product(s) interacts with their future Dolmenwood one, especially when it comes to redundant material. I could maybe do one Kickstarter but likely not both.

Look. How many times do you wish you had a rule book to hand out to players, especially new ones? These are what your old ones are for.

Also this will help them keep them in print and show how much desire there is for more content.
