[Old School Mash-Up] The City of the Sleeping Demon

Attila, Giant Mutant Spider

Attila turns to her companions.

"Onslau is right, we are running out of light. The more time we spend looking for a place to stop, the less time we have to prepare.

"So I think we need to make a decision. Choose one of the floors we have seen, or just make a run for the top. Personally, I want to keep going to the top."

If we have to die, I would rather do it up there, closer to the stars.

[sblock=OOC]While looking around the floors so far, has there been any indication of connections between the floors other than the stairs we are on now, and any elevators (which I assume are not working)?[/sblock]

"Right then, let us get moving. The sooner we get to the top, the more time we will have to prepare."

The depressive affect of no sunlight creeps up on Wing no matter how hard he fights it, and his silence continues. As the party trudges upwards, he keeps his eyes peeled for particularly defensible doors or rubble piles.

Upward and upward the group heads, moving slowly, cautiously. The next several floors of the building have been gutted by fire and time. In many places, ceilings and floors have collapsed. Time also continues to pass. The reddish glow of the setting sun darkens as seen through broken windows. At last, the group reaches the top floor, which consists of a single hallway leading to a sturdy-looking door that is slightly ajar.

Atilla, unseen and stealthy, investigates. The rooms beyond the door show the familiar signs of age and neglect, but appear mostly solid. There are few signs of vandalism. The mutant spider sees through the shattered glass doors leading to a terrace that night has well and truly fallen.

Attila follows Wing out onto the balcony. If there is any light left, she gathers what she can and focuses it on Wing*. Hopefully it will give him a last shot of energy.

"There appears to be only one way in^. So lets barricade the door with what we can. It might not keep them out, but it will slow them down hopefully. We only have to survive until dawn."

[sblock=OOC]*Assuming that it is possible Using Control Light.

^Unless the balcony can be accessed from the top left.[/sblock]

The escapees and the exile make preparations for the night.

Thuddar takes a post on the terrace. The night breeze is cool, and the sky glitters with countless stars. Wing settles on the small balcony, enjoying the last rays of the sun, and then, for a time, enjoys some of those rays gathered by Attila.

Onslau joins Thuddar on the terrace. He leans over the rail, looking down into darkness. The rippling waters below reflect moonlight.

"Damn, I'm hungry," he says. Thuddar hears Onslau's stomach growl in response.

Mogullen walks onto the small balcony. He inhales the cool night air, stretches, and then points.

"Lights," he says. "Probably watchfires. That must be where Melina's from."

Martik and Narford explore the rooms. Martik talks nervously about the weather, food, how much his feet hurt, about everything but the possibility that Melina's warnings about demons are true. Narford listens silently. She pats Martik on the arm.

Melina skulks onto the terrace, away from Thuddar and Onslau. She sniffs the air, closes her eyes, raises her face to the sky. A plaintive howl flows from her throat and mouth. A moment later, fainter howls echo from somewhere to the east.

OOC: +100 XP for the action, +60 more for two months real time!

The first two hours pass without incident. Melina has curled up in a corner of terrace. Onslau and Thuddar are on guard nearby. Wing and Attila are still in the vicinity of the small balcony. Morgullen, Martik, and Narford rest in the large room adjacent to the terrace. Of the three, only Narford is awake.

"Did you hear that?" says Onslau.

Cautiously, he and Thuddar peer over the edge of the terrace. Rising out of the darkness, scuttling up the side of the building, are two monstrous insect creatures.
