Omata, The Bringer Of The Rain And Rainbow

OK, working on it… some comments:

How should we do his psionics? Like in the MM, or psionics handbook style? If you prefer the PsiHB, just tell me what you want out of that book – I’m still burned out on that after the whole elder brain thing. ;)

Regeneration/Fast Healing: I don’t think all the archfiends had this ability, but many of them did. What’s your opinion on this?

I think I will definitely steal Serge’s Emerald Rain (green, not purple!) good one! :)
Opinions on his Holy Touch, Celestial Song, and Holy Beacon? I could see keeping 1 of them, but all 3 would bump him up a lot higher than expected.

It may not be necessary for him to have spells, since he has psionics. Opinions?

Should he have a retinue? Very optional… maybe something like “1-6 couatls”. This is apart from The Spectrum, I would think, so may not be necessary.

For Feats, I will wait until we have finished converting the BoVD feats – I will try to scan and rewrite them tonight (rather than doing all that typing…)

For skills, how about the main list as posted: Concentration, Knowledge (at least three - note that arcana, history, and nature are favored among couatls, though he might prefer psionics to arcana), Listen, Psicraft, Search, Sense Motive, Spot, Tumble
Plus: Alchemy, Appraise, Intimidate, and Wilderness Lore (from Serge’s list)?

what about the insight bonus to AC? is that a factor of Wisdom?

I think MM Psionics would work best, unless we want to emphasize that this was once a normal Couatl, with levels in Psion and/or Psychic Warrior, which ascended.

I would say drop Holy Beacon. Celestial Song is good, and I would keep the Holy Touch as well.
We could drop spells altogether, since he has psionics.

Let's make this short and sweet shall we?

Psionics - MM style, just add a few more powers, useable at will. Add also the psionic attack/defense modes.

Spells - Drop them, not needed

Spell-like abilities - The prismatic spells are a must, as is control weather. Perhaps add one or two others that fit his 'theme'?

Emerald Rain - This is a keeper.!

Holy Touch - Pretty much useless for him, he has no hands... I say drop it.

Celestial Song - IMHO it does not fit him.

Holy Beacon - To powerful for him, IMHO. I say drop it.

Regeneration - Drop it, as it is not really needed.

Immunities - Against prismatic spells and electricity. add cold and sonic resistance 20 or 30.

Damage Reduction - 20/+5 IMHO.

That's about it,

Well, I just want to point something out.

Bear in mind that this version of Omata is not designed to fit into the BoVD concept, but into my ideas for epic Outsiders. I created this version as a test for the applicability of my template for true epic levels and divine comparisons... and to share. As far as the template goes, it works quite well for my expectations (and gives me an idea of how powerful Jazirian will be), but this does not fit into the direction you guys intend and that was never really the goal. I do appreciate your observations, though! :)

Frankly, I think that what you guys and BOZ created already works very well within the BoVD framework. If anything, feel free to take Emerald Rain and use it as part of the design you have going here.

omata, do you mind if I post this version of your namesake at my site?

ok, wait, i messed myself up. :) from the way i had Omata's casting powers, it was this way:

cast spells as a sorcerer (just like couatl's, but higher level)

spell-like abilities (just took the couatl's psionics and changed them to spell-like abilities)

psionics (intended as PsiHB style)

but, how about if we change it to this:

cast spells as a sorcerer (raise the caster level to...?)

make the spell-like abilities back into psionics, add more, and give him attack/defense modes. what caster level?

Now, that's the big question, isn't it? :D

It seems that many demon lords and none(!) of the lords of the nine in the BoVD and the Web Enhancement use their Wis modifier for their insight bonus... either that, or a straight +6. I'd say we should use the Wis modifier. That way, we are consistent in a way. ;)
