On My Own

Goldmoon

First Post
And now I'm all alone again
nowhere to turn, no one to go to
without a home, without a friend
without a face to say hello to
and now the night is near I can make believe he's here

Sometimes I walk alone at night
when everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and I'm happy with the company I'm keeping.
The city goes to bed and I can live inside my head.

On my own
pretending he's beside me
all alone I walk with him till morning
without him I feel his arms around me
and when I lose my way I close my eyes and he has found me

In the rain the pavement shines like silver
all the lights are misty in the river
in the darkness the trees are full of starlight
and all I see is him and me forever and forever

And I know it's only in my mind,
that I'm talking to myself and not to him.
And although I know that he is blind,
still I say, there's a way for us.

I love him
But when the night is over
he is gone- the river's just a river
Without him the world around me changes
the trees are bare and everywhere the streets are full of strangers

I love him
But every day I'm learning
all my life I've only been pretending
Without me his world would go on turning
a world that's full of happiness that I have never known

I love him
I love him
I love him
but only on my own

One of my all time favorite songs. Anyone know where its from without looking it up?

Very Good Heckler. Now do you know why its my favorite?
Well the song is about a young lady realizing that she has spent most of her life loving a man that no longer really loves her, that she has held on to this phantom of the past while he has moved on.

Later in the closing arguments she comes to realize her perdicament and begins to move on as well, I can only imagine that you feel some sort of kindred spirit due to similar life circumstances... Am I close or should I just shut up now?

Lessee, I'll have to guess...

1) It is an incredibly beautiful song.

2) You have/are suffer(ing) from unrequited love, much like Eponine.

3) Again, like Eponine, you have severed your ties with your family, and are "On Your Own."

4) Because in Victor Hugo's first drafts, instead of dying, Eponine runs off and joins the French Air Force. Hugo later changed Eponine's fate due to the fact that there was no French Air Force. And even if they did have one, no one would ever believe that the French could put together an effective Air Force.

I didnt expect so much thought and depth to go into why you think its my favorite song. Its really simple actually, my name is Eponine. My mother was a big fan of the book. I personally love the book and the play(s) but thought the movie was horrible. I'm not a big fan of Hugo's other work though. I cant get into his poetry and Hunchback was just boring.

That is an interesting name. I don't think I've heard it outside of the movie. Sorry. I haven't read the book or seen the play.
